Happy New Year Everyone!!!

I'm going to start a new thread so that it doesn't get too big.

I've attacked my computer desk today. I haven't gone through the drawers as I'll need a paper shredder first to weed through all the old bills.

So, new total is now 188/2008 80 of which is from my computer desk alone and I counted my papers in piles.

I still have to attack the shelving unit that holds my homeschool and daycare supplies.

I officially started today, although off to a slow start. I keep thinking of the big things (monitor, old computer) to rid myself of, but it's the small stuff that's really cluttering my life up.

That said, there was some small progress today. I've listed a few items on Amazon and Bookins, and as they leave the home, they will be counted. But for today:

(5) thank you cards that I've been saving for years, finally mailed this year
(3) metal cookie canisters that I was saving for the wee one... pots and pans will work just fine

one more book and one pair of boots sold!
one broken car seat in the trash

200/2008

I have two bags sitting in my car, but I am not going to add their count to my total until they are actually gone.

I am going to schedule one day each week (will change depending on what's going on) to take the stuff out of my house (to the recycle center, reuse center, salvation army, or children's orchard). I will have to do the sold items more frequently, but I am still going to pencil them in at least twice a week.
This will help me stay motivated, but also not get caught up in running out everyday.

Did a first pass through under the bathroom sink. cleared out some old toys, consolidated boxes of supplies, etc. this accounts for 13 items.

Just a few trashed items today:
1 of DD's shirts with a hole
1 too old to use item from the pantry
1 little shopping bag (VS lol) DD has been playing with for weeks
1 christmas tree to be recylcled into mulch

I did get a few more things ready for craigslist/freecycle so hopefully those will be gone soon - but they aren't out yet!

Ok doesn't sound that impressive, but I'm not back at home until the 9th, so decluttering some of the toys we've got with us at my folks' place:
4 ripped up kids books
1 bunch of little beads that had no home
3 dried out stampers
1 bunch broken crayons
1 noisemaking toy scooter attachment
for a whopping total of 10/2008

I'll try! I purge a lot, but I never thought to keep track. I got rid of a ton of stuff before the new year, but I still have lots to go. I have a few things on Freecycle now.

This is a really good idea. I have piles of things that need to go, but I never seem to actually get them there!

This is what we do. We have to make a stop to the recycle center every week (usually Fridays) anyway (no curb side pick up) and we pass a Salvation Army drop box on the way

I need to come up with a plan for the things I am mailing, like donations and sold items. I can't handle going to the PO every other day.

I took some things to the Goodwill yesterday, but I forgot to count them.

So I'll just say that I removed 3 full bin liners and an old lamp from my house.

(Bin liners hold about 20 items, a piece, right? Can I say 61 items?)

Ok, I'm going to join-- but I'm not sure how I'm going to keep track of this much stuff!!
Today I have ready in a box to take out:
3 Christmas coffee cups
7 Saucer plates

And now I'm going down stairs to get the 50th anniversary cake topper that my mil insisted we keep when cleaning out her mother's house... why? because she got married late in life, so we are the only ones who are likely to use it!! We have been married 5 years!! It's plastic and lacy... I am going to "put it up" because it will be 45 years before we "need" it... and will she remember to ask about it, when she's 90 years old?

180 books - we are cleaning our bookshelves. Holy cow - that sure feels good!

I also have a box of uncounted stuff that I'm freecycling - we're taking the books out today so they count today

And I freecycled a coffee pot, a bread maker, a bouncy chair and a baby bath!

Finally I hit the trunk of the car. (A trip to Costco for diaper wipes shows that we have no room in our Jetta to just let stuff drift around in the trunk.)

To add to the grand total:

(14) flat rate priority envelopes sliding all around my trunk are now being recycled

Total: 22/2008

I just cleared out the main bathroom vanity (which is the only storage in the bathroom...no shelves or other closets) and got rid of 12 more things.

Is it okay to share pics of our progress on this thread? I hope so! If its not okay, I'll delete the link. If it is, here are some pictures of my decluttered vanity:

I cleaned off a stack of holiday catalogs and magazines from my bedroom vanity.
I need to find a recycling center. Any ideas on how to find one? I'll go check my city's website in a minute.

6 outdated mags and catalogs

How sweet of them. So I guess I'll join too. I'm going to start tomorrow by hitting up these bags of ??? Right now I'm off to bed.
