artparent, can you tell me a little more about how you integrate Things with iCal and To Do? Do you get them all to sync up, or do you use each for separate purposes?

they can be set to sync with each other. this way you can make a 'to do' in Mail, which then shows up in your iCal to-do list. you can set a reminder in iCal on an event (in my case, 'morning routine') and it will send you an email at whatever time you specific. you can set recurring events in both iCal and Things. i use Things for all those bits i think of over the week, order a rainbarrel, get passport photos, my mother's birthday, more parts to a major project...if they are related to a date then i will set a reminder for myself, or else i can set an end time when it will appear in my Things inbox. this is great for stuff that comes up a couple of times a year, i can ask it to remind me in six months! like to make a dental appointment. Things can be it's own calendar within iCal i believe..but i should check that.

Oh, I'd been playing with Things and enjoying it before switching over to google. Perhaps I'll go back to that when I upgrade my blackberry to an iphone in Septemer.

I'm a morning person.  We actually do exist.

Okay, just to clarify... You are using Things to "capture," and iCal/Mail to for your NA lists. Do I have that right?

Sorry if I'm being obtuse or nosy. I just don't have a very good workflow right now, so I'm very interested in learning from other people's setups.

Thanks!

not obtuse or nosy! good for me to clarify for myself. i'm using Things to collect from Mail and i'm also using iCal to collect from Mail, i use Things to plan next actions and when there is a date involved, i put that into iCal, and when there is just a to-do involved, it goes into iCal's to do list and Mail has a to-do list synched with that...but i think there is a gap somewhere, i'm having trouble identifying..hmm. Things is Getting Things Done, central, but i collect into it from Mail, and i use iCal to schedule + remind (and reminders largely appear in Mail).

any clarity from that?

yes, the iPhone is a brilliant part of the system, as i can sync it up and have Things on it to refer to. sometimes my life is busy enough that that is important...and of course i have iCal and Mail on there, and all phone numbers etc from the Address book.

it's very good, now i should do something of importance, right? or at least not forget as much!

Anyone still on board with GTD?  Thread seems pretty empty :)

Your bump is so timely! I was just talking with a friend today about how I need to get back into an organizational groove. I totally backslid in my GTD and it shows. bag.gif

I've stayed in the groove of writing everything down that I need to do, but after a while unless you actually do it or actively maintain the lists of everything you've written down, all you really have is a royal mess of lists ROTFLMAO.gif
