baby has finally discovered the trash can. I am looking for a trash can with either a very heavy lid or a lock. any suggestions?

ours fits in a cubby between the counter and washer, so for now it's turned backwards so it takes much time and effort for him to get into it (it's an effort for me to use it as well, which is a pain, but makes me think twice before throwing something away!). I also tried putting a cabinet strap-style lock on it, but it didn't stay put.
Do you have extra cabinet space? Put a small can in a cabinet and do a cabinet lock.

We have a touchless trash can from Costco kind of like this one but rectangular:

There's a button on the back of the lid that lets you turn it off so the lid stays shut. It's kind of annoying to turn it off and on every time you want to throw something away, but it's good if you have kids.

Oh I'll have to look into that can! I can't tell you how many things have been thrown away by DS when we weren't looking.

we use a small open trashcan (that can hold grocery bags) under the sink. It's worked well for both the dog and the kid.
