Personally, I don't think I'd have the guts to, but I defend somebody's right to defend their livestock. Especially, if they rely on them for food or income.
One of my biggest pet peeves about living in the country is people who let their dogs roam free. They are a nuisance!
I make sure our dogs stay on our property. Neither of them are killers but I accept the reality that if they were to stray on to another farm they could be shot.
As for confining my chickens, I like them roaming free. Just the presence of a LGD seems to keep them safe during the day. I will take my chances with coons, foxes etc. but death from a marauding domestic dog? Unacceptable. It's the dogs that need to be confined, not the chickens.
