My little Nigerian Dwarf buckling is just about to that age that he needs to be moved into his own pen and I want to get him a companion. I've been looking at adding another buckling to the herd so he will have a friend and I'll have another breeder, but it dawned on me that I could possibly get him a whethered lamb to be friends with (I only have 5 does/lings, so don't really need another breeder). I've had my eye on the Old English Babydoll sheep for a while now, and they would be a great size for each other.

I'm trying to brainstorm what would be bad about the situation, but I'd thought someone here might have actual experience with the combination. I'm thinking about the mineral supplement for the goat might be toxic to the sheep, and maybe parasites would be an issue... But other than that, I can't think of anything. Any thoughts??

Thanks in advance!

Sarah

Yes on the mineral. I use sheep mineral for all my sheep and goats, and use a goat-only feed that has copper added, fed carefully away from the sheep.

Horns are the other concern. My sheep are polled, my goats are not. It has not been a problem for me, but it could be.

Electrified fencing, or woven/welded wire? Electric doesn't always work on sheep; they are pretty well insulated.

After talking to a farmer that breeds/sells the kind of sheep that I want and the kind of goats that I have, I've decided to just get another buckling and wait on the sheep. Someday soon...

Thanks for the response!
