Hi, my name is Erika and I am pursuing the idea of homesteading.

This has been something that has interested me since I was a little girl, before I even knew what it was. Growing my own food, crafting, canning, and having livestock are all things I am really interested.

Anyone have reccomendations on good homesteading books? especially good for newbies? Thanks!

I really like any of the Storey Guides to....(for livestock). I have the chicken one, the dairy goat one, and the rabbit one.

I really like The Backyard Homestead. It's all about what you can do w/only a quarter of an acre. Great food preservation stuff, too.

Barnyard in Your Backyard is great, too.

"Countryside" magazine, and "Backwoods Home", and "Grit" are all great!

Carla Emery's book is great! I also have Country Wisdom and Know How and the Foxfire series. The Storey's guides are good especially for more detail about certain areas. I've heard really good things about Back to Basics also.
