I am house hunting now. The house I wanted sold. Is it possible to find a house with southern exposure? I want to take advantage of solar gain (warms the floor and house as sun comes through windows), and hope to install solar panels too.

Has anyone who lived in the city had sucess in finding a home in the right direction?

The other question is the slope of the roof. Is there a particular style of home I should be looking at that would have the right slope for solar panels?(getting the most energy from the sun).

You actually want a kind of more south east exposure. I have no idea about buying in a city as we have a solar house on the side of a hill in the country. Solar panels can be adjusted for the needed angle unless you have an integrated roof like ours. Our actual roof is panels on the southern side of the house. Adding panels to an existing roof I have seen done many times and the supports for the panels can be used to lift the panels higher and angle them in the right direction.
