I have so many that it is tough to just pick one. I love this subject and enjoy reading as well. "The self-sufficient life and how to live it" by John Seymour is great and I think there has been a revision lately but I dont' know how it compares. I also have a book by Paul Heiney called "Country Life a handbook for realists and dreamers" but I think it is a rare book that has gone up in value. I found alot of mine online, Barnes and Noble, and Tractor Supply has a good variety.[/COLOR]

Easy, it's a toss up between Carla Emery and John Seymour. Both are GREAT books.
For me the only reason that John Seymour's book would pull ahead is that it's a hard cover with wonderful glossy pictures. Carla Emery's book is paperback and newsprint type pictures.
Carla's book has more "country living" to it thou, recipes and such along with "tips and tricks", Seymour's book is more straight educational.
