What is the deal with this?  I'm suffering from a major anxiety disorder (I have been a couple of times to a psychologist, most recently this morning, but have no insurance so it can't be too frequent), but I am afraid to ask for medication since I still nurse my two-year-old several times a day.  I have heard that Zoloft is probably okay, but how can I be sure?

Well, one more thing to be scared of, I guess.  Great.

Anyway, thanks for the help

Most commonly prescribed medications are safe to use while breastfeeding, especially an older child. The quantity of medication which gets into your milk is usually well below the therapeutic dose for the child.

Hale's Medication and Mothers Milk is considered the definitive source for information on drugs in pregnancy. It lists Zoloft as an L2 which is the second safest category. It means that there have only been a few small studies but that those studies have found the drug to either transfer in very small quantities or to be not cause any problems when infants have been exposed via breastmillk.

I hope that helps :-)

Im currently 24 weeks and pregnant.  I was initially on paxil before I became pregnant and was switched to zoloft because it is better for baby and u can breastfeed while on zoloft. I hope this helps.
