Anxiety about driving

I lost sleep last night because I'm nervous about driving to Tampa on Thursday to join my husband, who will be flying in from working, so that we can go to a homeschool conference. (His parents will be watching our children.) I drove on the interstate for the first time on Sunday with his dad directing me and I drove as far as the airport that way but on Thursday I will be alone with printed out directions for about an hour. Do you have any advice for dealing with driving related anxiety? (I've been driving for about a year on residential roads and on city streets, up to 60 MPH, just not on the interstate or in Tampa until now.)

May God bless you and His Blessed Mother Mary keep you!  :-)

Can you put cotton balls with lavender and rosemary oil or a soothing aroma in the car with you? Play music or a book you enjoy on your CD player? Also look at Google Earth at the intersections you feel unsure of?

Drive at your own pace, you do not have to buy in to the pulse of the highway. Who cares if people speed past you, honk, or whatever! You are getting to your destination without harming yourself or anyone else.

Also pray (I know that you will know what I mean ) My conversations with the divine calm me tremendously.

Safe travels

In addition to what Puma said, I find deep breathing behind the wheel not only calms me but makes me a better driver. Even when my son is chattering away or singing in the back seat.

Also, good music always helps!

Good luck & safe travels!
