I'm working with James S. Gordon, MD, a frequest contributor to Mothering, to help him educate the public about natural approaches to treating depression instead of using SSRIs, which sometimes don't work and have side-effects. Dr. Gordon runs the non-profit Center for Mind-Body Medicine in DC and has been an integrative medicine pioneer for almost 40 years, teaching Self-Care techniques like mind-body health, physical exercise and proper eating to hundreds of thousands of people around the world to treat and prevent illness.
He recently wrote a book, Unstuck, that discusses the drawbacks and effectiveness of prescription antidepressants and provides a comprehensive, natural approach that works. We're following in Oprah and Eckhart Tolle's footsteps and have created a free four part online web series called "A Natural Approach to Treating Depression," starting on November 18th. It includes four video classes plus a bunch of free downloads, like a Workbook (PDF), an audio relaxation exercise (MP3), video demonstrating a relaxation exercise, and other materials - all for free. Dr. Gordon wants everyone to be able to access this important information even if they can't afford the book.
