my DD nurses almost 10 times a day still and 2-3 during the night. she does eat solids, self fedding, but not enough to cut out any nursing. sounds like your guy could nw if he is only waking up once.however if he is teething or sick he wont want to. and if you want to cut out the middle of the night one you might have to add one more during the day. when DD2 has a nice snack before bed she nurses less at night.

DD is nightweaned - she sleeps 12 to 13 hours straight through at night. She nurses 4 - 5 times during the day, plus takes 9 oz of milk when I'm at work. She also eats a lot of solids - my supply has been dropping (probably from working and trying to pump) and I increase the solids as it does. I estimate she's getting about 600 calories from milk, and 400 from solids every day.

No way will Owen nightwean, the kid nurses all.night.long. He's teething and going through so many developmental growth spurts IDK if he could nightwean. He has been walking since he turned 10 months, now he is starting to try and run. His comprehension is rocketing. It's amazing the words he recognizes.

We are awaiting the results of his allergy panel, he's being tested for peanuts, sesame, chickpeas and garlic. I really don't think it's the garlic, gosh I hope not. He eats garlic in nearly everything, the onlyh thing he had a reaction to was hummus, I'm nearly positive it's sesame, or chickpeas.

He had low iron, but he also was very sick a few weeks ago, I have to call my Dr and talk about what we should do, he's anemic, but displays zero signs of anemia. I'm confused.

We are in b-day party mode, DD's 4th b-day is this week and followed ina 3 weeks by DS's 1st b-day. We are enjoying the young toddler stage, we are having so much fun. Owen has gotten really funny in his newly acquired walking skills.

Well that's it for us.

He's a voracious eater, which is good since my milk is getting less and less abundant. I am working 40 hrs, plus 45 min commute each way, so I'm away from him a lot. I pump 3X at work, but on a good day I only have 5-6 oz to bring home. He nurses like a champ in the evenings and all. night. long. If we didn't cosleep, I would be certifiably insane by now. Thankfully, I can feed him and we both just fall right back to sleep!
He is so much fun right now -- all smiles and giggles and snuggles. It just keeps getting better and better!
I'm starting to plan his birthday party already.
spiralshell, i would think we had the same baby if yours didn't have a penis and a different birthday. we even have the same work schedule and commute. hildamarie is walking and nursing all night long.. etc etc. how funny. now we just need to work on having number 2...

Is it getting lonely in the echo chamber yet?

LOL Hildare! Good to know I have a baby-twin out there!
Yes, DP is starting to bug me about when we'll start for #2. I'm not sure i'm ready yet... working full time and caring for Nate has me pretty exhausted. Just the thought of that early pregnancy exhaustion on top of this everyday exhaustion makes me want to cry!
(We're so busy as is, and I work days and DP works nights, so our lives are providing us with basic birth control at the moment! lol!)

Someone was asking me about nightweaning Nate the other day and I just laughed. This boy nurses All. Night. Long. ALL NIGHT! So you're not alone! We're apart during the day, so nighttime is important snuggling time. Though my little stay-in-one-place babe has started to sprawl and squirm across the bed at night now. I think I need to get a bedrail!

hello everybody!!! busy busy busy!! my two big kids went back to school, more time alone with Theo. (when i am not working!) Yuck. Anyway, Theo eats almost anything. LOVES beans, turkey, sweet potatoes, avocado, fruit, cous- cous, rice cereal, peas, carrots.....etc.etc. He has 4 teeth and has been crawling since 7 months. My other two were at least 12 months old, so that was a shock. He does some sign language, says Mama, Dada. He looks like he will walk any day. He loves trying to get into mischief....the recycling, the garbage, the diaper pail, the tv remotes, the computer, the basement door, the stairs, my DD art supplies, esp. the cat food!!! What a bundle of sweet and chubby gurgly (mischievous and busy) happy baby joy!!!

wow so much i want to respond to... i'm sure i forgot some, but oh well.

Harmony96: we have also been ECing pt since Vlad was 3 months. we also use what ever potty we are around. i have noticed as you said, Vlad doesn't signal any more. occasionally if he's playing he will come up to me and if he's dry i will put him on the potty and he will go. i've tried sign language which he understands but refuses to use himself. i put him on the potty each time he wakes up, after every diaper change (in case he has to go more), and before we leave the house. as well as at both my parents and my in-laws house (they think it's great) and various restaurants and gas stations (i just hold him over the potty after i have taken his old one off on the changing table).

LionessMom: i also have a little contortionist nurser. it's been particularly difficult at night when he turns onto his stomach and stretches my nipple as he tries to keep turning.

the2amigos: happy belated b-day Jimmy!!!

Kmama2: i haven't been counting how many times Vlad nurses. i would estimate 10 times during the day and 5-8 at night. he eats a little of what ever we are eating as well.

Spiralshell: i also have a rolly baby. we use bed bug bumper.

what do your nighttime routines look like? i need a new one. we usually brush teeth, read a book, and then nurse to sleep, but lately Vlad has been rolling around after he is done nursing and i have to hold him still until he falls asleep (he usually protests which is hard for me). we are still co-sleeping. i have tried so many different methods (we tried baths, wearing him down, letting him play some more, singing, early/later bed times). i'm all out of ideas.

Thanks Cindy for directing me to this thread. I kind of forgot that we had one over here. Kmama2, congrats on your pregnancy!

I doubt I'm getting pregnant any time soon, I haven't even had my first pp yet! I had it back by now with my other two. I'm loving it though. Maybe it's the tandem nursing? I'm losing weight but it's so slow, 14 more lbs to go to get back to pre-pregnancy weight. Trying to be patient!

Kara Esme is into everything. I had a panic moment the other day when I realized that she starting to behave like a toddler rather than a 'lil baby! She goes wherever she wants now. She climbs, walks, crawls, fights with her brother over toys and food, bites, says a few words, throws temper tantrums... so I have to face that fact that I'm dealing with two toddlers now, as her 2 1/2 yr old brother is still very much a toddler! We do part-time EC and I'm happy when I catch a poop every now and then. She will pretty much pee whenever I put her on the potty seat, and then she claps for herself, which is pretty cute. She is way jealous of her brother and cries and screams whenever I nurse him in front of her. She's got bright red hair and the temper to go with it, unfortunately! She definitely is more high-strung than either of the boys. She's good as long as she gets her way and is held 24/7 though. She has two bottom teeth and one on the top, with another top one coming through. My kids are usually slow to get their teeth. She is about 20 lbs which is funny because my 2 yr old is only 25 lbs! They do occasionally get along and play together, which makes me so ridiculously happy.

I'm home-schooling my 7 yr old this year and back in grad school, part-time. It's a crazy life but I love it. My main disappointment is DP wasn't able to take any vacation time this summer even though we started asking for it back in MAY. Asshats think they can jerk us around because of the recession, and he is on salary so they can work him 24/7 if they want to. It seems so unfair.

DD2 goes with me as i tuck in the olders. we brush our teeth. DD2 will hold her brush and move it around like she is brushing. too cute. then i read the 2 older ones a bedtime story and tuck them in. then i nurse DD2 to sleep in the living room while i watch tv with DH. she usually goes right to sleep and i can go lay her down, but the last 3 nights she has been staying awake longer etc. every time it happens she makes a breakthrough in her development. or gains a chunk, or is learning something new. the one day was bc i drank too much caffeine i think. :sigh. if i want to go to bed but she is still up, i willl ay down with her in the side carred crib and she will play with the crib toys on the side of her crib. since it is dark, that only lasts a little while and then she crawls over and nurses to sleep. i have read (and it seems to fit by what my other kids have done) that it is mostly to do with reaching a mile stone. they are gearing up to do something new.

Hi everyone!

Hope all of you are doing well. I've been soooo busy.

Adriana has been crawling and cruising like crazy. She's cutting all top 4 teeth right now and it's been.... Interesting. She had a weigh in yesterday and came in at 16lb 10oz and 28 inches long. She's the sweetest, most mellow child ever. She is clapping and waving and dancing and just recently she's started trying to sing along with me. She also mimics movements and words and says a handful of things. She's said momma, dada, cat, dog, book and she babbles like crazy.

She eats anything and everything and loves drinking water from a straw cup. She nurses a handful of times a day and still about once at night. She sleeps best when in bed with us (and so do we) so we've ordered a king size bed. I'm beyond excited to get it.

As for me, I've been seeing a trainer since May. She competes/specializes in Crossfit so that's what she's been doing with me. It's killer but I definitely see an improvement in my overall mental health being able to get away for an hour a few nights a week. I haven't gotten my PPAF yet and am wondering when I will. I'm not in any rush, but we have talked about beginning to attempt for #2 in the Spring '11. I would think it will return by then right?

Anyhoo...

Here are some of the more recent pictures of her 365 day project. I'm a little behind on uploading.

Take care!

We do Pj's... go upstairs to his room, close shades and turn on sound machine ( he starts rubbing his eyes at this point) then I rock him and nurse him till he repeatedly pulls off/ or falls asleep.. then I stick him in his crib and he crawls around, eats his blankets and then goes to sleep.

our nighttime routine starts at supper time.

We eat supper as a family
Lyra goes straight from high chair to bath tub
new diaper and jammies
playing with mummy and daddy until she starts to get sleepy
diaper change
nurse from both sides
than daddy paces and rocks her to sleep and puts her in bed (Typically this happens at 8 PM)

I didn't realize there was a thread for us over here! Thanks Cindy for sending the facebook reminder! It feels like I haven't even talked to any of you since Evan was born almost a YEAR ago! How did our babies get so big, so fast?!

I am having so much fun reading everyone's updates and seeing the photos of all of our beautiful babies!

Evan is cruising, and working on getting his upper two teeth (I think they JUST broke through today) and his second two bottom teeth on the sides of the middle two. He is just the happiest, most easy going baby ever and we love him so much. This boy's ALWAYS got a smile on his face! He is also talking so much. He can say, Mama, Dada, Hayden (Hayda), Haley (Hayee), Ellie (Eyeeeee), Gramma, Hi, and I swear he says I love you, but it's more like "I ya ya" Hehe. The names are the names of his siblings and cousin. He can't say his sister Jordyn's name yet, but heck she's three and still can't say it right either so I'm cutting him some slack on that one for a few more years! LOL

It seems like since Evan was just 5 weeks old, we have had ongoing health problems with him unfortunatly. It started out with the most horrible sever ezcema I've ever seen. The eczema lasted until last May/June when we finally figured out that he is highly allergic to peanut and egg. I insisted they do allergy testing on him, because I was sure he must have had a dairy allergy, but it turns out it was the peanut mainly that was causing the ezcema! I never in a million years would have thought this, since he was still exclusively breastfeeding! He is so sensitive to it that the hidden traces of peanut in the foods that I had been eating were affecting him!

His pediatrician also thinks that he may have asthma because of the frequent respitory infections he has had since January.

So, last week we took him to the pediatrician for the flu/cold he couldn't seem to kick off like the rest of us and they did a chest xray. The xray found his heart was enlarged so they sent us straight to the cardiologist the next day. He has Sinus Venosus ASD and his blood flow in the heart is all messed up, going the wrong way, mixing and pooling in the heart, thus enlarging it.

Needless to say, my sweet baby boy has to have open heart surgery to fix it, and they want to do it within the next month! Once it's fixed his heart will be fine, but I'm so scared for the surgery! I can't imagine them doing all of the things they do in open heart surgery to MY baby! We could use all the prayers you have to give right now. Please pray for him that everything will go smoothly and we don't have any problems! Thank you!

Oh my goodness...I am so sorry. What a major thing to go through. I am sure that you are terrified. We will be sending all of our healing and good
thoughts your way. My mom just had heart surgery last week and I am utterly amazed at what doctors can do. Evan will do great...so will you.

As for us, I think that Dylan is working on his molars now. He's had 8 teeth for the last month and just started drooling majorly again. We also had our first cold. That wasn't any fun! He still isn't even crawling yet, but getting closer and closer. He babbles a lot but nothing that I can really understand.

He's been protesting nursing during the day except before his naps. It's a little frustrating because I know he's hungry, but he just won't nurse. So, I'm trying to increase his solids, but I still get scared sometimes that he'll have a reaction or it will make him feel yucky I'm working on it!

We're struggling with naps and nighttime sleep still. Oh how I long to sleep. Just for a few hours at a time, I won't be greedy. I'll post a pic later.

Proud mom of Dylan born 10/10/09

Wow MandyB, that is scary, of course our prayers our with you through this event. Your poor little guy.

Well we are having MAJOR sleep issues for the last month Owen has been a tossing, turning, nursing non-stop train wreck of a sleeper. Today it finally is really grating on me. I NEVER get a break from the kids, the house(oh except work ). I'm starting to feel really resentful to the entire family. I need a friggin day off. I take care of the kids ALL DAY LONG, then the evenings I work, I take care of kids, then work-it's really starting to make me feel really crazy. Oh did I mention, neither one of them takes a flippin nap anymore either. DD's nap was 5 minutes yesterday, Owen napped for maybe a 1/2 hour. DH is taking him tonight so I can get some rest because I am turning into a total rag. I just feel like screaming and walking out the door, maybe coming back after a night in a motel-ALONE, no kids, no DH just a king-sized bed and me.

Sorry, I just am seriously turning into a total meanie, I just yelled at DD for talking while I'm trying to nurse Owen and get him to sleep. It's just getting old, I really don't know what happened, he used to sleep. The same thing happened with DD, she slept(although in 3 hour increments). She got mobile and turned into a toddler and her sleep turned to crap. Owen has been a great sleeper until her started walking, now he's a PITA. I'm dreading the toddler years, DD's were horrible.

I sound like such a Debbie Downer, but I'm feeling pretty burnt right now. UGH.

Awww...I hope you get some sleep tonight! I totally feel your pain though. We have four kids and my oldest was the same way until he turned FIVE! Actually, now that I think about it, FIVE must be the magic age for our family because my daughter stopped waking up at night at five too. My three year old and Evan are both up all night though. And of course, they wake up at alternating times, leaving dh and I up ALL night! I don't really think I've slept a full night in the last 8 years. Geez, I'm not being very encouraging. Sorry!

No, really though maybe a hotel and a night to yourself wouldn't be such a crazy idea! You would come back feeling so refreshed and you will probably even miss them so much while you're away that you won't mind being woken up so much the next night. I have one night a month that I hang out with my girl friends and we scrapbook (well really we just hang out, eat and chat with the intention of scrapbooking), and I always feel so much better after getting that ME time.

I hope it gets better for you! No naps can be a killer too. Right there with ya.

Thank you for your good thoughts and prayers for my little guy! We went to see the surgeon yesterday and Evan's surgery is set for...get this....his BIRTHDAY, October 7th! Crazy, huh. I'm convincing myself it will give him better luck to do it on his birthday. lol

On another note, we found out today from his pediatrician that he DID test posotive for whooping cough, and that's why he's been so sick for the last three weeks. We started the antibiotics on Saturday just to be safe, but now I'm going to give them to the other kids (who have been mildly sick) as well. I probably have it too, so I better find myself a doctor to get me the antibiotics too. Agh!

He's also got chickenpox. This is the craziest month ever for us. I don't think we've had this much illness in the last 6 years!

Well I am much better this AM then yesterday, DH took DS for 5 hours last night and I feel like a new woman, he also got home early from work and took a nap with the little guy. I made calzones and caesar salad and it was just a nice evening. I don't need much, but a few minutes in the kitchen just making dinner with DD helping and not having to deal with Owen at my feet and into everything sure helps.

I think for me the frustrating part is that I just have extremely active children, compared to other people I know, DS is on the top of the chart for activity, coupled with less sleeping it makes me a bit crazy None of my friends who had babies last year are anywhere near the busyness that Owen is, he walks, nearly runs-they all are like oh my baby just plays with toys and sits. I'm glad he's active, but lordy, between DD and him I am just pooped. Thank goodness I got my tubes tied, there is now way I could handle another child like the 2 of them, they are exhausting.

Mandy, I hope Evan's surgery goes smoothly. Sorry to hear he had whooping cough. I don't think the other kids need antibiotics if they've only been mildly sick. Is that what the pediatrician said to do? I hope they all heal well anyway.
DD has taken to resisting going to sleep, and in fact I often have to go for a long walk or drive to get her to sleep. although today she did finally fall asleep nursing (it was noon by then though). She seems to be having only one nap a day lately, although sometimes that's just because we have been too busy to fit a second one in.
Norasmomma, yes, I've heard the more active they are the less they sleep and the more work they are to take care of. Glad you got a break.

i have extremely active kids, too, erin! natalie didn't walk until 16 mos, but that didn't stop her from going all day and getting into everything. my oldest required about 5 hours sleep TOTAL per day at 1. and not much more before that. i'm also glad that they are active, but i can barely keep up.

so glad you got a break!

oh active kids! my bio kids are so active. the only calm one is DSD. haha. she even noticed it. she says her sisters are always on the move. DD1 runs around crazy all day. upside down, right side up, jumping off the couch. sigh. and now DD2 is moving. she is constantly moving or into something, unless she is sleeping. she has finally started staying asleep when i lay her down. she was never one to go to sleep on her own, i could never lay her down awake. she slept 6 hours straight last night. and sleeps for an hour twice a day by herself in her bed. once in the morning after i get out and once in the afternoon. i am excited as none of my other kids have done that. lol.

every day i give DD2 meals. she mostly plays, but now she has decided that she only wants to eat with silverware. she doesnt want to handle the food. she tries to use the fork etc but gets frustrated and wont let me help her stab stuff either. sigh. she is only happy if she can do it herself. she has such a little attitude and very independent. once she does get something it goes right in her mouth. she has that part down. i dont think she likes the food on her hands. DSD never did either.
