My 8 month old just fell off my bed. :( Good thing is the bed is very low (a foot) off the floor, and we have carpet. Still, I feel horrible! I  went to wash my hands b/c I was going to nurse him, the sink was in my bathroom a few feet from my bed. He didn't cry at all, I just heard a THUMP (ugh). I grabbed him right away and he seemed totally fine. I nursed him immediately and we played a little afterwards (while he was on his back) and he spit up a little (as he always does). Not vomit, just spit up. But now I'm worried... I just read to watch for vomiting and I wish I hadn't fed him right away. Right now he sitting on the floor playing with toys (he's not crawling yet) and I expect him to get fussy because he is a half hour past the time when he would normally nap but I'm keeping him up to watch him... do you think it's safe to just put him down for his nap?

He'll be fine. Really! I can't count the number of times my two have fallen off the - regular height - bed. I freaked out with #1 but DS2 seems sturdier, somehow. lol.gif
I also stopped washing my hands before nursing DS2 pretty much immediately!

Thanks Megan73!!! I feel HORRIBLE mecry.gif, last time I leave him even for even a second! He's not crawling yet but he must've rolled over to the edge.

Yeah about the washing hands...I have OCD and germs terrify me (It sucks, I hate being this way). :(

This happened with my ds recently too. Instead of leaving him on the bed now, I put him down on the floor when I have to go do something. I've made a little recreation area next to the bed with toys and he seems happy there. Makes me less of a nervous wreck smile.gif  I try to remember too, babies are made kind of sturdy, though it doesn't lessen the pain when they get bonked.

I've had this happen, too... at night when DD was just learning to roll over.... It is the worst feeling in the world!  Needless-to-say, we got a bed rail and I learned my lesson.  BTW- DD is no worse for wear :)

Hi from another Feb/11 mama!!

I haven't had it happen with this baby (yet?) but it happened with both my older kids when they were babies. They were fine. I was in way worse shape than they were LOL

This happened to me one night when DS was a baby & rolled off the bed (he was never on the edge again after that). He cried briefly and was fine as soon as I nursed him. I felt so terrible, but he was totally fine and it sounds like your little one is too. It's definitely scary when things like this happen, but they are surprisingly sturdy. winky.gif

Both of my kids have fallen off beds of various heights several times as babies. My DD fell off her grandmother's high bed onto a tile floor while she was watching her. My DS as a newborn was laying down in the middle of my normal height twin bed when his sister came running in and jumped on the bed. He went flying off (seriously, he was airborn) and fell onto the tile on his face. I put the mattress on the floor that night. Both situations freaked me out a ton, but the kids were really just fine outside of a little bump and some brief tears. Little ones are tougher than they look. This is about the age I start teaching them to back off of furniture instead of going head first. It really set my mind at ease once I knew for certain they could get off the bed safely.

One of my kids never fell off the bed, and the other one fell of like two or three times. It happens. Don't beat yourself up over it.
