It's been so long since I made a new bajingo thread, but I've been doing it so long it was like coming home. Remember threadkeeping back in 2011 (actually 2010!!) on the TTC board.  :) I added people who were not there who have been active in the past few months. Anyone else wants to be added let me know.

Cathelini, it was so great to hear from you and Rose is a doll. Are you enjoying your break from teaching? I am, my year-long er...break. I don't know if I'm going back or what, but although I miss the kids I don't miss the BS.

andaluza, how are you and M doing?

birdie, yeah while floradix is "gentle" compared to some iron, I can't imagine it being easy on a LOs system. It makes me queasy sometimes.  Good luck! Iron is kind of tricky to find in foods that are easy to digest. People are also stupid about anemia. Ha. Everyone's like "eat spinach"...okay, it's really not that high in iron compared to a lot of things, but thanks for the advice, Popeye.

Caly, hope you and Cara did okay without daddy for a week. I know you guys are old hats at girls only. :)

tear, how is your pregnancy going?

Lyle's doing really well on prevacid twice a day. It's a pain to split the solutab and then give it to him twice on an empty stomach and wait 30 minutes after to feed, but worth it. Of course he could just be outgrowing it, but for now we'll credit the meds. He is however the last two nights have classic "4 month sleep regression" symptoms, waking every two hours. Previous to this he was sleeping about 5-6 hours in his crib in our room with his arms swaddled in a sleep sack, then wake to feed and then another 2-3 hours of sleep. My friend whose son is just a few days younger than Lyle is going through the same thing. I hope that he readjusts. If not we're going to reconsider bedsharing, that's for sure.

We had fun at swimming lessons today! It really tired him out.

I'm going to be starting classes in January to become a reading specialist. I don't know what the future of my career is at this point but it should be a good move no matter what.

Hooray, a new thread! Thanks, Boots! We made it through the week without DH, but I got very little sleep while he was gone. I told him that we are not doing that again until Cara starts sleeping through the night (the only exception being travel for a job interview; no more week-long conferences). Working all day and staying up all night with a baby is just too much. I'm glad Lyle's reflux seems to be under control. I'm sure he's glad, too!

Catheleni, little Rose is so sweet! How long will you be off work?

I apologize if I'm missing personals--too lazy to go back and look at the old thread. redface.gif

We are doing well for the most part. I'm sick for the bazillionth time since Cara was born, although she seems to be in fine health, so I'm not sure who to blame this time. orngtongue.gif I stayed home from work yesterday and today. I probably could have gone in and muddled through today, but work has been a total drag lately and I didn't feel motivated to go. I was pretty happy being a working mom when I was part-time, but honestly, working full-time with a baby has been hell. I am exhausted, and I feel like I'm missing Cara's infancy. I would quit my job tomorrow if DH were on board with it. We would have to do some serious belt-tightening, but I think it would be doable. We wouldn't be able to save anything, though.

Oh, and my mother-in-law invited herself to spend Christmas with my family in Washington state so she could see the baby! Who does that?!? Nobody invited her, she just kind of announced that she was coming, and then what could we say? My parents barely know her, and she's totally intruding on their baby time! I am so mad.

Sorry about all the whining, I'm just not in a super happy place right now.

Caly, i hope you feel better soon. People in my ddc were saying often babies don't catch mom's colds because breastmilk. How is that fair? I have talked to a fair amount of moms who quit work and are making it on one income and everyone says the same thing - we thought it would be hard but it's not bad. I am sure you guys have talked it to death. We about went crazy making the decision but now all is good - except we have to make the decision all over again if i get offered my job back next year. And there are 1500 books sitting in my classroom not being read. Do you think your husband would entertain the conversation again?

Is there any Bajingo wisdom on 4 month sleep regression? Is it real?

Hi guys,

Thanks for the compliments on Baby Rosie.

I am off work til Feb 1st but certain I will take at least another 3 months.  I don't want to leave her at all.  At all.  I hope to stay out til September but it will be rough.

Just speechless about the school shooting.  Really exhausted from trying to wrap my mind around it.

Night all.

Hey everyone!  It's been awhile.  This is another sort of whiny post, so I apologize ahead of time.  I haven't slept more than two consecutive hours in the last week and just like you, Caly, I'm not leaving DH again until Piper is sleeping through the night.  In our case, I went to visit family without DH, ended up sleeping squashed up with Piper in an airbed and dealing with her crazy new sleep routine (which is to say no routine at all) and her insane leg movements.  She's clearly gearing up to crawl and basically dolphin-kicked me all night long for three nights in a row.  I broke down crying in a restaurant in front of my sister's future in-laws when Piper wouldn't go to sleep.  I broke down crying again this morning when I begged my sister to take Piper in the Ergo grocery shopping so I could get some sleep.  Of course I couldn't sleep at all, but at least I had a break and could lay with my eyes closed without anyone rooting at my boob/arm/whatever.  I'm at the end of my rope. I have to teach a four hour class tomorrow that basically ties together the entire theoretical framework we've been discussing, so if this keeps up I'll have to get our nanny to come early so I can sleep before going in to work.  Which totally defeats the purpose of paying the nanny so I can get other work done.  Fortunately, we're on break for a few weeks after this week so I can at least crawl into a hole and die or something and hopefully reemerge with some modicum of sanity.  I'm supposed to be finishing up my book too, but I'm just barely hanging on with teaching.  Everything was totally fine until last week.  I feel like I got hit by a tornado.

It's 9pm, but I'm going to bed.  Hopefully I'll have a happier post later this week.  Any support for when the awful sleep regression ends?  I know a lot of people say it never really does, but I'd rather not hear those kinds of stories.  Good ones, please.  (To top it all off Piper gets her four month vax on Tuesday, so she'll probably be a disaster for a few days after that too.... I'm going to go cry myself to sleep)

Lily, after a few days of wakefulness Lyle is back to sleeping just like he did before. So that's my happy story. We kept the routine the same (which is a combination of ergo, nursing and then swaddling when asleep and being put down in the crib in our room). So let's just say that the sleep regression is not a definite thing, I have talked to a bunch of moms who have not even heard of it. The articles I have read, the science does back up that babies sleep rhythms start to change to be more "adult like" (although with my sleep issues, I don't know what this means) at this time.  Here's the stuff I read about the sleep regression a few months back.

(more stuff than that, I think through links and other posts on her blog)

I'm buckling down for a big week of events with my mom's group and then in-law holidays. I'm still crying about Sandy Hook, but really looking to Obama to see what the next move will be. The NRA has had their facebook page down since Friday...

What are the babies getting for xmas?

Lyle's getting Eric Carle books and some soft blocks.

Boots- Thanks for the new thread!

Lily- so sorry about the sleep- it is so hard to do without sleep.

Caly- are you taking immuno-boosters like probiotics and vitamins?  Kids and day cares have so many germs and we eventually adjust, but anything you had do to boost it helps.

AFM- Got through our 1st semester with baby; I am turning in grades this week.  There have been some very tiring weeks.  Like many of you, sleep is a precious commodity, but mostly I have a very agreeable little girl.  Juniper wants to get down and get around on her own so bad; she squirms to get out of my arms.  Only 5 1/2 months and wants to run around already.  I think it is the little sister thing.  She is so enthralled with DD1's every action.

Christmas Pictures?

Happy Holidays to everyone! I hope everyone enjoys their first holidays with babes and those of you who are on the second time around also have a ball! Do we have anyone further along than that who is active here? CaCountry, that's right. I'm nervous and excited about our trip to Spain. It will be memorable, and I hope for the right reasons.

Thanks, Boots, for starting the thread and checking in. That's great about the classes you'll be taking. Sounds like fun. Also, I'm glad to hear how well things are going with you staying home with Lyle! Sometimes I wish I didn't have to go back to work in January, but I miss certain aspects of my job. It's certainly bittersweet, since I cherish this time I've had with M. The bob stroller is our present to M (with help from my folks). I plan to get a lot of books while we are in Spain, since we intend to speak Spanish at home and have him learn English at school. So far I am inconsistent but need to make an effort to speak only Spanish soon.

Caly, sorry to hear you keep getting sick. That is what I fear the most. I hope your health improves soon! That is crazy about your m-i-l! She certainly sounds ballsy. I hope it works out, though, and you can enjoy the holidays.

Caheleni, thanks for sharing the pic of baby Rosie! She's so adorable! I snap so many pics of M sleeping on or beside me. I think it's one of the most adorable things.

Lily; i hope that things get easier really soon. I know how desperate and frustrating it can feel at times to try to stay on top of everything and feel like it's slipping through your fingers. A little bit of good, uninterrupted sleep goes a long way, I find. Dh will keep M in the mornings sometimes when he's making breakfast and getting ready for work just so I can stay in bed alone even for half an hour if M wakes up early. It's amazing how good that feels and how much better things look after that time.

CaCountry, so glad to hear you survived the semester intact! Our pediatrician predicts M will be a very active baby once he starts moving on his own. I can tell already, since even before he could hold his head up well during tummy time he was moving his legs like mad and wiggling his body all over the place.

Hi there, Penny! Welcome!

Things here are going pretty well. M is 4 months in 3 days and is so much fun and now he laughs and giggles, which gets rid of any stress or tiredness I may feel. Just some small issues: he definitely still has a milk sensitivity (noticeable blood in stool after I ate just a bit of buttered popcorn)  and I've tried to reintroduce other things into my diet with varying success. Soy seems ok, but I had a really small amount and he had a negligible amount of blood in his stool. Eggs made him gassy, so I've decided to limit them. Shellfish didn't seem to bother him.

He has begun to really dislike his chicco stroller setup, though. He gets whiny because he wants to look at the world all the time, not just mom or whoever's driving the stroller. We got a bob jogging stroller (yeah, opened way before xmas) and, while we aren't yet jogging, he loves loves loves walks in it! We also got several baby wearing options from our showers (baby k'tan, maya, and ergo), but M was thrilled when I tried on the baby bjorn that my colleague gave us and I had him forward facing. I know all the problems people report about it, so I find this a little troubling. I can wear him forward-facing in the baby k'tan, but frankly it does not feel as comfy or safe for me or him. The pediatrician ok'd the bjorn, but I am still undecided.

The other thing I'm surprised to report is that we're cosleeping part of the night. He goes down in his arm's reach cosleeper for part of the night, but generally there comes a time when the leg kicking just never ends, despite me trying to soothe him, unless he's next to me. We were planning on getting a full sized crib after the holidays and we'll see if that makes a difference. It is totally adorable to watch him sleeping and snuggle with him in bed, though.

Dh is getting more and more involved now that M is much more interactive and M really likes his dad. Dh still gets uncomfortable when M is whining and I'm eating or whatever, but I'm trying to get him confident in baby-soothing skills so that once I'm back to work he can also do something during the nights if need be (we'll see if that plan works out).

I am pretty sad about starting him in daycare in the middle of January, but plan to make the most of my time at work so that home time is just that--for M and family stuff. I just sent off part of my project which I managed to work on here and there these months while taking care of M. He's become a pretty good napper (especially on me...we'll see if he adapts at daycare), so I can work with him sleeping in my lap (I need to gather everything and keep food/drink nearby and hold any desire to pee to get the most out of it). But I'd rather not have to do that any more, and since around here it's full time or nothing for babies M's age, I will be trying to do 9-5 in the office. I'm a little terrified that pumping is going to consume a lot of time and mental energy, though, every day at work. I can pump well on one boob while he's nursing the other, but I'm concerned about how it will go when he's not around.

Andaluza: I've heard that some people wrap something around the base of the Ergo to make it more narrow, so that the baby can face outward.  That might work for you?  I have a Beco Gemini which is pretty much the same as the Ergo (costs about the same, too, unfortunately) which does allow forward facing.  Atticus loves it.

Ahhhh, LivingSky! joy.gifSo happy for you!

Welcome Pennywhistle!

Safe travels, Andaluza. Will you be working part-time or full-time in January?

Christmas with a baby is so much fun! Cara made out like a bandit on Christmas morning and has been enjoying her new toys and lots of attention from her grandparents. I just tried to upload a photo, but it didn't work. Back with that later.

Thanks for the congrats ladies smile.gif We're pretty excited. Took 9 months of trying this time and I had a lot of pressure from family and friends to stop nursing to 'make it happen'. It was really frustrating! Kayden will be 26 months when babe #2 arrives and I haven't decided yet what we'll do about nursing. I think we'll wait and see - he may wean on his own when my milk supply tanks in second trimester, or we may wean before baby is born, or we may tandem nurse. Yes, I'm being indecisive smile.gif We're also already debating whether I'll go back to work after maternity leave. So much stuff to figure out. I've already booked the midwife who delivered Kayden though - I figure if Ive got her on my side I can conquer any problem!!

And boots - whenever you get a chance smile.gif Do you have my address? There's no rush though, I have all the audio files saved on my computer. Must be more dilligent this time in practicing!

Congrats, LivingSky!  I was updating the TTC thread and saw that you had joined up with the Sept. DDC!

I thought the bajingo mamas thread had fallen asleep - but when I looked for the new thread boots talked about, here it was!  Yeah for cute Christmas baby pictures!

Hi ladies, I changed my screen name because I realized I was using it multiple places and it was easy to search out the gory details of my pregnancy/ttc.

Happy new year, mamas and babies! Hope everyone is doing well.

It's actually getting down to freezing in AZ at night, I saw ice on the sidewalk today maybe for the first time ever since moving here 7 years ago.

Let's hear some updates, hope everyone is well.

It's unbelievable to me that Lyle will be 6 months on 2/3. We're having a "half-birthday" party in my mom's group for all the August babies since there are so many (just a simple park day, but still sort of cute)

Penny, sure you are welcome to join, I will get the front page updated soon.

boots, the half birthday party sounds like fun.  Once a group of my friends sprung a half birthday for me since we were in college and didn't see each other in the summer when my birthday is.  It was a blast! Hope your mommy's group is just as much fun or more.

Finally checking in!  Remember me?!  I've been thinking about all you Bajingo Moms and wanted to let everyone know that baby Cormac was born January 2!  He was 8 lbs 8 oz, and 21.25 inches long.  :)  My big boy!

He was 2 days past his due date, and I was measuring big and showing no signs of labor (cervix hard, no dilating, etc.), so we opted to be induced.  Not an easy decision, but looking back, it was the right one for us.  So we went in to the hospital the evening of Jan. 1, and I was given cytotec to start softening my cervix.  As it turned out, the cytotec was all my body needed to jump start labor.  Two hours after the cytotec, I stood up to go to the bathroom and heard an audible "pop"... my water broke, gushing everywhere.  The contractions started hard and heavy almost immediately.  I was in such terrible back pain, and as it turned out he was posterior, hence the back labor.  His feet were pushing on my spine, which helped me rule out an epidural because the anesthesiologist said it probably wouldn't be very effective.  I've never experienced pain like that in my whole life.  My DH was great, very stoic, and let me squeeze his hand.  I remember gripping the side of the hospital bed, and just sobbing while trying to breathe.  The contractions kept coming, only about 20 seconds between each one, and every time the nurse checked me (every 30-45 minutes), I was another centimeter or two dilated.  So my water broke at 10:30 pm, and my doctor arrived at 3am, and Cormac was born (after 3 quick pushes) at 3:11.  So my total labor was about 4.5 hours.  I couldn't believe it was over so fast--and how incredible it felt immediately after he was born.  The pain was just GONE, and he was so beautiful and perfect.

So far we are doing well at home!  Breastfeeding has been a struggle, as I developed a double nipple infection when he was 6 days old.  They were bleeding and scabbed over, and I couldn't get milk to come out due to the scabs.  Finally we got him back on track but my supply has been lacking ever since.  It's sloooowly getting better but we have supplemented with formula and I don't know if my body will ever catch up to him.  Good thing I am so stubborn because I would have already given up.

I hope everyone is doing well and the new year is off to a good start!  I am sleep deprived but happy.  :)  I can't believe one year ago we didn't even know if we could even get pregnant, and now here we have a gorgeous new baby.  Life is funny.

Cormac, just a few minutes old :)

Congratulations, LivingSky!  And pitchounette, big congratulations to you also! I don't know you so this may be kind of impolite, however, how could you look so amazing only a few minutes after giving birth?! :) Your son is adorable too.

Happy New Year to all! Evy just turned 6 months and is starting to try some foods. 6 months seemed impossibly far away when we were having so many struggles with PPD, breastfeeding, etc. in the beginning. Glad we made it. :) She is awesome.

Ha, what Scowgirl said! What a beautiful mama and a beautiful baby! Congratulations, Pitch! Hang in there with the breastfeeding. I also had bleeding, scabby nipples in the beginning. It finally got better about three weeks in.
