My ds is 9mo and has low iron. His hemoglobin was 9.4, his straight iron was 35, and his ferritin was 9.0. He was born early at 36 weeks. His pediatrician wants to prescribe him an iron supplement, but I'd like to avoid it if I can, but I'm not sure if I can get him to eat enough solids to help... we started solids at 6 months, doing baby led weaning, and he doesn't eat very much, more just playing with the food and maybe licking a bit off his fingers. He's only tried sweet potato, avocado, egg yolk, yogurt, apple, butternut squash so far. I'm not even sure what he would (willingly) eat that has high iron, plus vitamin c to help absorbtion... most vitamin c foods it looks like are recommended for after 1 year old due to acidity. We're also vegetarian (ovo lacto). He drinks lots of breastmilk around the clock though and he's almost 22 pounds. Any suggestions??
