I've started solids with my baby at 6 months, not because I wanted to follow the "rule" but 'cause my baby wasn't very interested in solids. Now, I'm happy I've made that decision as I read more and more studies on negative effects of introducing solids too soon or to late(like diabetes) : http://blog.earlystart.me/?p=251
What do you think on that? When did you start solids/plan on starting?
With both babies we started just after the turned 6 months. I am a strong believer in not starting earlier than that as I want to give their little guts plenty of time to mature. However, I didn't see any reason to delay beyond 6 months as both of them were showing signs of readiness.
I was interested to see that delaying oats was linked to DM. We do delay grains until closer to 12 months.

This is interesting. It was my opinion that at 6 months my baby should start fruits and veggies, but I wasn't planning on introducing grains for quite a long time. I don't feel that grains can be properly digested by an infant, they should be filling up on breastmilk and learning about food. But I suppose I need to do more research before I make a decision.
