I was told to give iron to my five and a half month old at 1 mg. per kg. She's 5 kg, so 5 mg daily.

Is this recommended here? The doctor said the new recommendation is from 4 months old. From what age do people give and until what age?

Thank you.

This is standard advice from doctors if you're nursing. Breast milk doesn't contain much iron. Formula contains iron so if you're using any you don't supplement on top of that.

Except that the iron in breastmilk is very bioavailable so a little goes a long way. I don't supplement. I do feed a little minced up meats and mushrooms and fruits and veg from about 6 or 7 months on.
