We started solids when dd was around 5.5 months old-- a spoon or two of pureed rice, ragi (millet), or congee. Actually I wasn't keen on starting her so early, but my dh, in-laws, and family are all insisting on it. So to pacify them, we've been giving her some solids.
She has been exclusively breast-fed and is 6 months old now. Her poops get mucusy after having solids, and especially more so after having millet porridge (we live in India and this is one of the first foods they give baby).
