Now that it's getting colder outside, I was wondering what other families do for winter gear for young babies. I've been putting light sweaters on dd when it's cool outside (and hats, gloves, etc.) and then tucking a blanket around her once she's buckled into her seat, but we live in the northeast and I'm concerned that that won't be enough to keep her warm when we go out once winter really sets in.

We have one of these:

but obviously she can't wear that in her car seat so it's not very practical for normal trips out.

My sister lives in Ohio and she told me not to put the baby in the carseat with a thick coat because you won't be able to strap the baby in as securely. She suggested using a blanket over him. I have seen warm covers that are designed for carseats too. That might work better because they have elastic or something to hold it over the baby completely.

I made one of those car seat blankets from pinterest out of fleece, and I just put a hat on him and layer blankets on top. I also have one of those full-body suits. Sometimes I put it on him and leave his top half out and buckle him in with the jacket part open behind him which works well.

You do enough. You are enough.
