i can't type well i'm wearing wrist braces. long story short "dequervain's tenosynovitis." my wrists had been hurting since about 6 months pregnant but they got worse the last few weeks. i'd been blowing it off as just another fibromyalgia ache. then my left wrist "popped" and i couldn't use that hand. my orthopedist fixed it up, put cortisone shots in both wrists, i have to wear the left brace all day and the right one about half the day, BLEAH. my husband had to miss work today, i have a friend coming tomorrow to help with Willow. i can do gentle yoga hand exercises if i take it slow. glad i went in and didn't blow it off any longer.

Willow's reflux is getting worse, i think it's the snot from her cold aggravating it. that or Zantac may no longer be working. she has an appt. the 11th and we'll decide if she needs to see a GI specialist. like she was eating 4oz per meal now i'm lucky if i can get her to take 1oz. she doesn't want the breast at all, and i can't pump with the braces at the moment, will figure that out tomorrow. the only thing that keeps her from arching her back and crying from reflux pain is being swaddled, poor lil thing is a burrito more than half the day but when she's feeling good, she's all smiles and she can pick up her rattle and shake it really well.she also loves her John Lennon elephant and grabs it and hugs it

Levi chomps my nipple to. I finally figured out that means "I'm done, now get this booby outta my mouth!!!"
Ella just started this a few days ago. It makes me a little nervous about when her teeth come in....

Piglet and Katie, I hope both of your doc appts go well!

Meli, sorry to hear about your wrists and Willow's reflux. Is reflux something babies grow out of? Your conception story had me :LOL

I am not sure of the exact conception date, as dh and I were quite the little bunnies ...'were' being the key word : ... but according to my edd it was Jan 20. But Ella was also 6 days 'early' so maybe before the 20th?

I'm worried about the bottle issue too. I wasn't until I remembered I have to go to driving school (to keep a speeding ticket off my record) on the 22nd. It's half an hour away and 4 hrs long, so a total of at least 5 hours. I think she's hitting a growth spurt too since she's been really sporadically eating. So even if I feed her right before I leave, she might be hungry again in 45 min, or not for 3 hours.

OK, gotta get going. Have a good Saturday!

We haven't tried the breast bottle. Money for one thing. The other is that I have heard it leaks terribly. If I want a mess, I'll just keep using the sippy cup lol. She tolerates the cup. I've pretty much exhausted the bottle stuff. Yesterday I decided that I didn't want to spend these last few relaxed days that way and threw my hands up. I will keep using the cup to get her used to it. I will send a bottle out to my mil so that if she wants to try it she can.

Piglet: good eyes. Hope the changing of the sides works out for you.

Katie: I too hope Levi doesn't need surgery.

Meli, if Willow likes being swaddled, will she go in a sling? Emily curls up into a little ball in the sling, it's as good as being swaddled.

It is snowing like crazy here today, go figure, it was supposed to be in the 40s! Should have known better. Good day to curl up at home and drink tea and just veg.

Piglet...Hope Sasha is fine and that all he needs is some repositioning.

Katie...hugs!!! Will be praying for Levi. DS#2 had to have surgery when he was only 4 mos. old. He was born with a cyst above his eye and it kept growing. Was scary there for a bit, but he did really well. Now I hope that Levi won't need the surgery....but if he does I am sure he will do well. Again big HUGS!!!

I tried the breast bottle with Sam and it was a no-go. I was able to return it to the wahm that I purchased it from and she reimbursed all but the shipping. Anyways....I think if your babe does well with a cup, Thia, I would keep doing what you are already are doing. Wish you the best when you go back to work...hope its a smooth transition for you.

Well I have been feeling stressed and a bit down the past couple days. Collin is going to need speech therapy and I am struggling with not blaming myself. He is a late-talker, and though he understand so much....he has diffuculty with sentence structure. Thankfully a good friend at our church is a speech therapist and I can just go straight to her.

Ok....storytime...have a nice weekend everyone!

Just wanted to pop in and say hi. I don't get much time on the computer lately.

We have been having lots of snow today. Kinda nice just being home as family with the snow outside.

Wow, my babe is a little peanut compared to all of your's. She weighed 12 lb 8 oz. at her 2 month check-up which was really at almost 11 weeks. But she is doing well. THe dr. said she has really good head control and I already have her riding facing out in the baby trekker and the maya. She likes to be able to see the world. Today, I was able to put her on my back in the Kozy, so that helped A TON with being able to get stuff done around the house and being able to pick up DD1 and take her to the potty or hold her on my lap or whatever.

Her conception day isn't for awhile yet, not until Feb 6th.

Ashlee, my babe was 10 days early, yet I know exactly when she was concieved (right at cycle day 14) and her due date was the correct due date for when she was concieved so I don't think that just because your baby was early means that she was concieved earlier. I think some mamas just gestate their babies longer than others.

Katie, sorry about the possible surgery. I hope he doesn't need, but if so, I am sure all will be well.

Meli, I hope you feel better soon and your wrist pain goes away. Poor Willow, that sucks about the reflux. I hope you are able to help it be better for her.

PIglet, I hope the repositioning does the trick.

Good luck to everyone with bottle issues. We haven't even tried that and probably won't worry about it. Heidi never had a bottle (until one day when she was over 2 and she saw me helping feed another friend's baby with a bottle (the bottle contained EBM and my friends had twins and couldn't nurse so she expressed) but anyway after that she wanted to try the bottle. :LOL I think I got her a really cheap one and tried it once, but she didn't really drink out it, just played with it.

s Katie and Piglet. I hope that everything is okay with your little guys.

Harrison absolutly refuses the bottle too. Actually he freaks whenever I leave home without him, I mean he looses it the second I walk out the door just to take out the trash, so getting him to take a bottle is not really relevant right now. I figure when he gets old enough to feel comfortable with being without his mom I'll give the sippy cup a try.

As for knowing my conception date... Dh and I just happen to be a pretty fertile couple. It seems that pretty much whenever we DTD with out some form of BC I get pregnant. So I know when I got pregnant with Alias and with Harrison because they were both times that I thought for a fleating moment "oh I should probably get (fill in BC method here)" and then let myself get carried away by the moment and figure to take my chances.

hi...haven't checked in in awhile...i read several times a da...tho.

hope your guys are of Katie and Piglet...let us know.

ameila...you dd isn't alone in the size dept....Ella was 12 lbs 10 oz at her 2 mo...this is strange for me as i'm used to my babies gaining a lot faster than she is...granted she is still in the 90th percentile...but compared to her birth weight her rate of weight gain in a lot slower than the bigger boys...ds1 was preemie so he was and still is a peanut. ds#2was 18-9 at 4 mos...i don't think she's going to be gainig 6 lbs in the next few weeks...it''s be nice not to have a moose for a change don't get me wrong...i love my big boys...it'll just be a nice change.

ella is doing good...she gets in these "things" once in awhile...don't know if it's "colic" that comes and goes or what...more i think it's just gas...she like to have her knees rammed into her tummy...this seems to help her feel better and wards off any gas if i do it before she starts being fussy. this is new, too, as none of the boys were really all that fussy...not like what she is anyway...must be the woman in her...

she's a smiley little girl...she giggled the other night...that was fun. no rolling or anything.

hope you all have a great weekend.

Meli, it must be so hard for you dealing with Willow's pain, not to mention your own health issues. You are one strong mama!

Sasha has good head control and loves facing out, has for some time now. but he is nowhere near rolling over (or so it seems) and also can't grasp anything deliberately. Amazing how differently all our babies develop, eh? And wow, do we have some big babies here! I thought Sasha was a chunkster, but he pales in comparison to some of you, lol.

We're in a winter wonderland here, not common for Vancouver. Not only is the snow incredibly beautiful, but it's not that cold. We enjoyed a lovely walk today and Emily had fun making snowmen.

Well, the inlaws are here. Better go be sociable.

I think you stole our snow, Piglet We've been promised snow for like a week now, but still nothin.

I'm so annoyed right now to the point of tears. I feel like I don't like any of my carriers right now because Zander is too big for a newborn carry, and too small for a hip carry. The stupid maya wrap video pissed me off, cause not all babies are that cooperative - and the stupid ring moves no matter how "correctly" everything is positioned. My baby wont let you fold his legs up for anything, he just holds them straight until he's asleep.

Oh and ofcourse Logan and his newfound nursing obsession is making me crawl out of my skin. I was nursing him down for his nap today and it felt like nursing a cactus or something, it just hurt. So I go to browse the extended bf forum to vent maybe and find that it's now called Child Led Weaning, which is like a slap in the face. I always thought I was into CLW as long as he did it by 2 1/2.

I just feel like I want everyone to get the f. off of me and I want to just run somewhere....but I can't cause it's friggin dark at 4:30. So here I sit.

deep breath

Mom to two boys, 7 and 10.  Expecting 3rd boy any day now with DH (his first).

amelia your peanut is bigger than my peanut Willow weighs 9lbs 13oz. but that's a 4lb gain since birth!

i dunno why but Willow can't stand the sling anymore, and barely tolerates the Snugli. but loves being carried around in arms, swaddled or not. *shrug* so, i carry!

Court s.. I feel like such a horrible mom whenever I go to the Breastfeeding forum becuase my plans to CLW went out the window. I can't fool anyone, I am defintiely not CLW and really encouraged a large drop in bf in my oldest. When I hear of people who have 3 year old who still nurse several times a day, I am so thankful I was able to get mine down to just once a daym yet I feel so guilty for pushing weaning.

Aww, thanks Kimberly! I think so too .

So, has anybody else's babe started to sleep A LOT? For about a 2 weeks now Ella has started sleeping for 6.5 hours, eating, then sleeping 2-3 more. now nak. I am so well rested! I forgot what it feels like to have a good night's sleep. But I don't want to get too used to it b/c what if it's just a growth spurt? I sure am enjoying it though.

Court, Every now and then I feel like this too.

Hey pouch owners, what other carriers do you use? I made a no-sew mei tai but I think Ella is still too young for it. But I REALLY want to use it...

Someone was asking about sippy cups...I'd recommend the Avent Magic cup if you can't get your baby to accept the bottle, that's all Ember ever had.

Court- Big, big I KWYM, I was really wanting Ember to self wean but then when she hit 3 all of a sudden all I could imagine was it continuing until Kindergarten so I got the ball rolling by giving her a bottle (she'd never had one) with a unicorn on it and giving her that at bedtime. It worked and she was happy with that for about 2 weeks and then she asked to nurse again but by then I was dried up so in a way I feel like I tricked her...then again I feel like it wouldn't have worked if she wasn't already ready. She has been wanting to nurse again occasionally, she's asked about 4 or 5 times since Oakley has been born and actually did this morning....I always let her have a little suck when she asks but I worry that she'll announce it at preschool or something : So I definatly know where you are coming from , that's too bad that the EN board now doesn't feel like a supportive place for moms in your situation.

Snow....we haven't had snow like this in years! We have like a foot of it, maybe even more! There are snowbanks on both sides of my driveway that are like 4 feet high which makes it really hard to see backing out so I think I'll be staying home for a few days :LOL

Piglet and Katie- I am keeping your little guys in my thoughts, hopefully it's nothing serious.

Meli- Oakley doesn't like being in the sling anymore either, maybe when he is big enough for the hip carry...but in the meantime he is just held in arms too. I find it much easier on my body anyway, no sore shoulders.

Mirthfulmum- Thanks, I am just taking what the bottle recommends too so I guess I will just continue that.

For some reason I am able to sneak and leave Oakley without feeling guilty (for a few mins of course) even though we haven't used a bottle. Once he has eaten he is usually satisfied for quite awhile, unless it is during a time like in the evening when he clusters a bit more, he's pretty predictable. I went to the grocery store yesterday after I had nursed him and got him to sleep, I was only gone about 20 mins but I would have never dreamed of doing that with Ember. Maybe it's because DH is home and has been since birth and I know that he'll be fine with him for a few mins.

Good to hear from you guys, Amelia and Carrie.

(((court))) I hear you, hon. Hope today is better!!

N. has another doc. appointment on the 17th for a weigh check ... apparently b/c he continues to gain weight so quickly, the doc. wants to make sure that everything is growing proportionally. I guess too-rapid weight gain could be a sign of a hyperactive pituitary... Although, there would probably be other signs as well. If it's not one thing, it's another *rolling eyes* There's always gotta be *something* to worry about, huh?

Anyway, he's a happy little chub-a-licious ... grinning and gurgling and "singing" to us all day. He's just started showing signs that he might be *thinking* about rolling over. But I'm guessing it's still a ways off. He likes being on his tummy now, if I prop his upper torso on my side (If I'm laying down, and he's perpendicular to me, if that makes any sense...) I tried propping him up on the boppy, but it must not be as comfy as I am, b/c he didn't like it *lol* But, he peeks all around and moves his head from side to side and kind of looks like a little, big eyed turtle. It's so cute He chuckles every now and then too ... one of the sweetest sounds in the world, I think...

Noah has just now started being fairly consistent taking a mid-morning nap (what he's doing right now, actually). Other than that, his sleep patterns are still pretty unpredictable. Sometimes I wonder if I'm doing him a disservice by not having more of a routine. Our days have a *rythm* to it, but not a clock-based routine, if that makes sense. Usually he seems happy to go with the flow, so I guess we'll continue as is...

I'm about to have my 27th birthday ... and for some reason I'm just in shock about it. It's like OMG, I'm twenty *SEVEN*, and I have two kids ... why don't I feel like a grown up yet?? Weird...

oh, about the slings... I use either the KKAFP, or I just bought a thermal mesh Taylor Made Sling that I just adore. DH carried Noah in the Bjorn yesterday for the first time too. He was facing out, but DH kept his forarm kind of under his chin to help in case his head got too floppy. I've been carrying him in the kangaroo position in the sling for a few weeks too ... he seems to enjoy it. At first I don't think he liked his feet all bunched up under him, but he seems to have gotten used to it. I'd love to try a mei tei, esp. for the back carry ... but no $$ to be buying more carriers *lol*

Christine..I know EXACTLY wat you mean about the age deal. I am 26 but still feel 22-23. Sometimes i look at my guys and think..."are you really mine?" I know they are, but its seems crazy at times to think that I already have 4 kids.
I hope this feeing means we will always be youg and spry

Asleepurdie...Quinn is a great sleeper as well. He goes down around 9 at night and wakes to nurse 1-2 times. Then he has a big nap almost every morning nd 2-3 catnaps every every afternoon. I am really thankful!!!

Quinn LOVES to talk...its really cute! We have so much fun with him. Collin is really good at getting him to giggle.

Tomorrow we are off to VA for week. Then up to Maryland, PA and then Niagra Falls. We will be gone for about two weeks. Should be fun. We will be visiting some family, friends and law schools. I am really looking forwrd to getting away. So all of you take care....will check back in when we get home.

Thanks so much for the cyber hugs everybody, I don't really have anyone IRL to vent to about this stuff cause they wouldn't understand. Still feeling annoyed in general today, but it's alright.

Bluehalo- I was just talking to my friend and freaking out cause we were turning 26 in a couple months. I still feel like I'm about 16. Time sure is starting to fly faster and faster, the older I get.

Ashlee- I looked at the pics too, she is gorgeous

Carrie- I wanted to ask you- what's it like now having a girl after 3 boys? Is it any different? Is it a good feeling knowing you'll have a female to relate to as she gets older?
Somedays I feel like I'm supposed to have a daughter as well as my boys. Right before I got pregnant both times I would have vivid dreams of a baby girl. Recently I dreamed of her and she was a toddler and I recognized her as mine - she was my girl. If I do have another one, I would want it to be like 7 years from now, so s/he could be my baby for a long time.
Then I remember how I'm done having kids

Oh, Zander just started really laughing out loud a couple days ago, so that's been so fun.

Have fun on your trip, Stanleymama!

Mom to two boys, 7 and 10.  Expecting 3rd boy any day now with DH (his first).

Ella also has a good "rythm" like bluehalo called it...that's a good description....nothing happens at the same *time* every day, but everything happens the same *way*....does that make sense.

her day goes like this:

i'll start with bedtime...usually between 9 and 10....she'll get up 1-2 times...*usually* just once....depending on when her early morning feeding is she'll get up for the day anywhere from 7:30ish-9:30ish....she'll be up for 1-2 hrs and be ready for a nap...her am naps aren't as long as they used to be...then she'll be up again for another 1-1.5 hrs and generally have a long afternoon nap...and then 1-2 more cat naps before going to bed for the night. i just know that she is ready for a nap again 1-2 hrs after she gets up from her previous one.

Recently I dreamed of her and she was a toddler and I recognized her as mine - she was my girl. If I do have another one, I would want it to be like 7 years from now, so s/he could be my baby for a long time.
Then I remember how I'm done having kids

ask me in a year or two when she develops more a personality (or should i say a girly 'tude ) and then i'll be able to give a more descriptive answer....:LOL

no, really tho...it isn't much different right now...a baby is a baby, i guess...the most noticable difference (other than the surprise everytime i change her dipe at the lack of appendages.........and the pink clothes...that's kinda weird yet) is that she is a little fussier than the boys. she seems to be more sensitive to what i eat or something....i have no idea what causes her to be fussy at times, so i just chalk it up to gasand something i have eaten....like i said in another post...if i do the bicycle riding thing with her tummy before she gets fussy it seems to ward off gas before it becomes bad. but no...it isn't so different at this stage of the game. thanks for asking!

I know exactly what you mean. I too feel like maybe I'll be missing out on something not having a daughter. I can already see how diferently Alias relates to me than with his dad. And I realize that I most likely won't be the one he turns to for advice about life and relationships and adulthood. He's porbably turn to his dad for that since he'd most likely want a man's perspective. Maybe I'm wrong. Only time will tell.

Talking about future children... we've decided against the vasectomy. When it came right down to it I just couldn't get that voice telling me that sterilization was not for us out of my head. I kept thinking of possible circumstances where I would want another child and having the option closed forever scared me. So I'm going to look into the hormonal IUD. For those of you here with experience using it, did it make AF worse and more painful? Will it bring back my period automatically, even if my body isn't ready? I'll probably make an appointment with my doctor in Feb.

Harrison is kind of on a sleep schedule. He generally wakes up for the day around 8:30am and he usually take three naps during the day. And none of them a usually over an hour. His first is at 10:30ish, his second around 2, and his third at about 6. Then he's usually down for the night around 9:30. I'm trying to do with Harrison what I did with Alias. Let him set his own sleep schedule and then institute it as routine. I'm not sure that Harrison has set his preffered sleep routine yet, but we'll see.

I left dd with dh while I went to the grocery. I was gone a little under an hour and she was okay. Now...can we stretch that to 4 hours? Tomorrow will tell the tale.

Ashlee how did you make the mei ti? And why do you feel she's too young for it? My favorite right now is a pack pack (like a mei tei) and I've been using it from the get. He likes to be in it facing out, and in while sleeping. He loves to be in sling/pouch/packpack. He'd stay in all day if I let him.
