Hi all!
Thanks for the mama love. I really need it right now. Ugh, so yesterday just got crappier. I think its one we'll just try to erase from the memory books. Apparently, dh took the day off so he could spend the afternoon over at his buddies smoking. Well, I had to call him 3 times to get the car back, so I could take Kobe to the ER because he couldn't keep anything in, and was getting dehydrated. So dh, in his wisdom, decides to start arguing with me that the reason Kobe has such bad diarrhea is because I keep giving him liquids, and I need to give him some solid food to plug it up.

I had a pretty good talk with my mama about all this stuff -- she lives with us, so she see's it all the time, and she basically said I'm an idiot if I stay with him. Not in as harsh of words, actually I siad it, and she agreed. I'm pretty sure I'm going to leave --not right away, I have to figure out a plan, but my goal is in about 6 months. The university has a single parent assistance program, and I can put MAkai and Violet into childcare for free there. V has to be one year old first. So I want to wait until then. Even our counselor thinks I should leave, its that bad Heidi, I do think its all related, the mind body stuff with Kobe.

Sooo...not to be a downer here, airing out my dirty laundry....

Laura, you are a nursing goddess, you!!! About the toddler stuff -- sadly, I've been there done that a few times. I think it just gets to a point where our nervous system can't handle any more stimulation adn we just freak out, yk? It doesn;t really seem to phase the kids, they usually think its funny, I do try to be extra gentle with them after that anyways.

Nicole -glad to see a pic of Will, or Slim, the little cutey!! He looks different than I remember him, for some reason. I LOVe the little sailor outfit!!

Oh, I hope Lauren and dh are feeling better soon!

Ok, more later...I have to go check on Mak, who woke with a fever last night...he seems better this morning though, just tired. Kobe is still the same.

Big Annie! I hope that making plans for the future gives you a little peace.

I finished a very cute pocket dipe yesterday morning out of this stuff. We went to a picnic/meeting with the SCA folks and her dipes were very admired. I think I created a future hyena. One 5 yo girl was watching me change her and fascinated by how pretty they are, and that diapers can go in the washer and get worn again.

Last night was crappy. She woke up screaming twice. The first time, I changed her and nursed and she went back to sleep. The second time, I made Mike get up and get her a cold teether and that helped, and then I think she nursed back to sleep. I was so groggy. She was okay most of today, but then another crying bout this afternoon. We're on 3 doses of Hylands so far, and she's sleeping now. She almost cried herself to sleep on me, then right before she went totally out she nursed a few sucks. I'm not even sure it's the teeth. She is drooling, but not a lot of chewing on things, only mildly interested in the teethers, doesn't want to nurse, she feels hot but her temp. is normal.

The secretary at DH's work got fired, so he's going to have a long miserable week as they all iron out the mess. :

Paq - nice fabric! sorry you little Bea had a rough night. poor little babes can't even tell us what is wrong!!!!
Andy - you are in a jovial mood! made me smile!!! :LOL
I'm so glad some of you received the postcards. I'm going to go check my mailbox right now!
Annie - I know you must be having a tough time right now and it all must seem overwhelming. I'm glad your mom is there to help out. Wow - leaving him?? That's a huge step and it sounds as if you have made your decision. I was in a live-in relationship with someone in Norway who I thought was very critical, emotionally abusive, nothing was ever good enough, clean enough,etc........While I "loved" him and didn't want to leave, I left and it was the best thing I ever did. What a weight off my shoulders. I hope you find some relief SOON!!!!!!!!!!
Did you take poor Kobe to the ER?? How is he?? You are in our thoughts here!!! gosh...... ask if you need any help.
Laura - you nursing QUEEN!!!!!! I'm really happy for you. Did you ever think it was going to happen????
Torin is napping again. Its funny how they know when we really can't take anymore. He is being good to me today!!!
Lisa - you're cracking me up with sending dh for naps as well!

Mary - yah, it's one thing for me to be sleep deprived, but to deal with his cranky ass and her fussy pain cries together is too much, so he gets to nap. Someday I'll make him pay me back for it...

Jeni - I'm with ya on the screaming sad babies. Lauren is hot, sweaty, but not quite a fever too. I'm hoping it's the teeth here as well, as I just CAN'T deal with one more thing going on!

Yay Laura, I'm still so excited for you

Annie, I'm glad you're thinking and planning and seeing that things are ok. Will you go back to school? Or back to shishi work place? Either way, I hope having a general framework to head toward gives you some peace. And tell dh to butt out and make his buddies drive, you get the car w/sick babies!

Nada else to report, we turned the a/c back on. Going to call the dietician at the hosp. back to make an appt.

Laura, there were 2 schools of thought - strap the kid to the high chair (with a potty bowl under, ever seen those?) and force potty training with punishment, and EC. Except it wasn't called ec.

What happened in the "ap" type families was the mom just got too tired of washing nappies by hand and since babes all wore dresses/gowns until they were older, they didn't have undies, the mom would be trained to take them potty on a regular schedule, or watch for cues.

I think that since there wasn't a lot of carpet, messes weren't as big a deal, and since there were no undies/dipes, the kids learned a lot faster. That's why all of our parents were trained before 2, and our grandparents more like a year-18 mos.

Interesting question Laura...my grams was raised on a farm in the 20's...oldest of nine kids. I was asking her about all that stuff - she attended all of my g-grandma's homebirth's. And she said my g-g would cook breakfast, go nurse and potty all the babies (had twins) and then get ready for lunch, and after lunch would nurse and potty the babies again, along with a nap. Kinda sucked for the older kids, cuz they had to do all the farm work. But glad to know that g-grams was ap! (sort of) I dunno what my grams did, but I remember her saying she didn't use diapers on her oldest dd, so it must've been something similar.

Here's my babe's (from last week)

Annie, Mak and Violet are toooo sweet! too sweet for a blank wall, apparently
It seems unfair for five of you to move out - can you kick him out? How does that work? Maybe different in an apt vs a house. If your counselor thinks you should leave him, that's pretty bad. You are young and great and beautiful and you deserve better. WAY better!

Laura, yay for nak! ha ha, you deserve it.
nak doesn't work at my house. nak -> distraction -> baby turned around banging on keys and closing the window.

Mary, thanks for the compliments on sitting up and eating Evelyn thinks her daytime meals should take place at the table with the rest of us, now. We have no family history of food allergies, and so far she seems to be good. If one turns up we're going to have to change a lot. Today she had tiny bits of egg, a few bites of kiwi, orange juice, rice cereal with apples and bananas, and goat yogurt. Who knows what she'll eat for dinner; last night it was zucchini and sweet potatoes. I can see Lisa pulling her hair out at the thought.

Yesterday she wasn't liking her rice cereal much. At the end of the meal I tasted it and the milk was sour. Nana hasn't been checking the milk before she gives it to the baby. I'm pretty sure Evelyn's had sour milk several times. She hasn't been sick from it.

Oh, Jessi, I guess I should clarify. I guess when I meant I would "leave" I just meant the marriage. He'll have to move. This is my mom and I's house, he has no claim for it.

Everything sounds so rash and dramatic (I hate that), but it has been going on for a loooooooong time. Remember when I was pregnant? We've talked about it lots, and made our peace with it. I'm sure that when we do split up, it will even be amicable. Really, I make him out to be such an asshole, but he is ok. Just not in a marriage. We've had just as many good times as bad.

Lisa- are you taking Lauren to the Cleveland Institute? I keep searching for allergy stuff, and their name keeps popping up. Seems like they are fairly renowned (could just be propaganda though)

I got Kobe into the immunoligist for Thurs. Finally, someone is taking this seriously. The receptionist actually sounded concerned (shock!) and they would've taken him sooner, but doc's on vac. till then and I didn't think it was so urgent that we needed to see the on- call. He's sick, but stable. We already spent a full day in hospital, so I don't think much will change in the next 2 days.

I'm making this while I wait for my size 8 needles (so I can finish soakers) and I think I messed it up :doh!

Annie I've been thinking about making that : and I'm sure if I saw some nice yarn I'd be all over it I haven't put any effort into finding it but if a link should come my way........
It sounds like you've got your mind made up so that half the battle. Hopefully when the time does come you're right and it doesn't end too badly, ust keep making your plans until then..

Laura : sounds like you had a great day. Hopefully she's fully caught on that from the tap is the way to go

I went to the dentist today (where's that shiver smilie) for the first time in 5 years after a realy bad experience. This time wasn't nearly as bad, though I did have a panic attack but the good news is the big gaping cavity is finally filled

Its hot and humid and hot and yucky and hot and he don't have ac 95 degrees

Annie, you sound soooooooo much better. I'm glad about that!!! And, its great that you and your Mom own your home so the kids won't have to move, or you for that matter. Glad you think the divorce will be peaceful. Like the scarf!! I'd like to take up knitting but I need to take up cleaning first! :LOL
Laura - for nak
I've got to go and get this place looking presentable - we have a friend stopping over later to drop off some Alaskan King Crab they caught yesterday.
Jessi - I'm still amazed at all that Evelyn eats - wow!! We don't have allergies in my family either but we've started out slow. I think its cool that she is doing fine with everything. She looks like she is having a ball!!

Lauren is napping, dh is going out to a meeting, and I finally got a shower. And I had dh wash Lau in the shower too, I have a funny video of it (and it's not indecent) that I should post.

Be back in a few, I have a dvd to put in and a video to go play with on the mac.

Heheh no, actually we're going to University, that's where the insurance goes... but if she has true reactions when we start solids then I'll push to get over there, the Clinic is cool, presidents of other countries and princes and such come here to have surgery - they fly in on their big planes and land and then hire an escort to the hospital...

aloha!
I read a lot, though undoubtedly missed a lot! Laura- that is the best news I've heard in so long!!! AWESOME
Annie- maybe you need a little break right now? wanna come visit us? we'll be home on Wed. you are certainly welcome!

so we're here and Luka is sick Sat we had a long day- went to visit my bro- went swimming and then when we got back went to an outdoor mall thing and saw music. that night he was HOT in bed. when I took his temp yesterday morn it was 103 I figured it was a virus and would pass quickly. still feverish today anbd I started to worry about flying on wed- what if it was his ears (though he was just fussy- not screaming or anything). so I shlepped to the doc, eventhough I was pretty sure they'd do nothing, or wanna take blood. I thought probably roseola. doc thought maybe the same, but his throat is raw and red and swollen with some spots on it. maybe hand, foot, mouth, but w/o the hands and feet? they took a throat culture anyways. BUT. they gave him some tylenol and that was at noon and he just woke up from a nap at 5 and he's not feverish- so maybe we're done. I HOPE! it's not how I wanted to spend the last few days of my vacation!
other than that it's all good. cooking bouillabaise for dinner- yummm

let's see.... some things I can remember to write about....
Mary- we did many road trips with R as an infant. I am embarrassed to say that when we were on long trips we took him out of the carseat : we were young and felt that the psycological trauma was worse.
jessi- thanks for diapes.... I don't have anything with fleece- actually one with a fleece soaker- it's been fine so far.
I dunno what else. my time is limited bhecause of Luka's fussiness. basically we've been standing/ walking for 2 days now. I'm getting lots of help (dh went hiome yesterday) but it's not the same. fortunately he's been sleeping a lot too.

I'll probably not check in until I get home. can't wait!

Hi, mamas!

Jessi, glad you gals got the postcard. A couple days after I sent it, I had this feeling like maybe I wrote "St. Louis, OH" on it. Did I do that? Wouldn't be too surprised if I did. :LOL That's so cool you're having so much fun with Evelyn as she tries new food. I wanted to be feeding the babes that way--a little of this, a little of that--but with my food allergies and Carmen's funky tummy it's going to be a big ol' snore until we've got some momentum going. Evelyn sounds like such a fun baby.

Laura, I'm so PROUD of you. When Megan nursed yesterday, I had to tell my DH. He was so amazed with you, he was like, how does she do it all?! He couldn't imagine coordinating pumping with feeding like that, and for so many months already. How wonderful it is that your hard work is paying off! And Megan looks so pretty and healthy and strong. You know that mama milk is doing her some serious good!

Lisa, I loved that comic. So are Lauren's screamies pretty much over with the Prevacid? When is the Ba swallow?

Sucks to be me. Carmen just woke up.

Annie - somehow I missed the whole progress to planning post. Huh? Well, my friend, I say you are one smart cookie, looking out for yourself, your babies, your future. I'm so sorry that H. isn't more understanding and workable. Jerry and I have been down that same road. But he doens't mistreat me that bad, just never seems to 'get it' and I get so frustrated. I've threatened to leave a few times, and each time it seems to be both less effective and hit home in a way that talking doesn't. He just DOESN'T get it. It's sad. I really applaud your stamina for pulling it along this far. Muleish, for sure, but also committed for your babies and for 'family', which is something worthwhile. I'm just hoping that until plans get realized, you and H. can live together peaceably. Do you think he'll move out w/out argument? Is he just waiting for you to call it quits? Guys can be SO lame... They can also be the brightest stars ever. Even the lame ones Your babies are SO beautiful! Mak's smile just melt my heart. Viles is looking so pretty and happy. All in all you and H. do make beautiful babies, so it was somehow worth the pain, kwim? And that scarf looks yummy!! What color?

Laura - WAHOO for YOU!!! What a great two days!!! Lots of nursing, and even NAKing!!! Ori also doesn't put up w/it. No nursing, just baby at keyboard and then...all is blank. You have really stuck with it in a way that you can forever call an achievement! YAY!!! We're excited about six flags too

Jeni - hang in there mama!! This overtired stuff doesn't last too much longer (seriously, it DOES end). Your diape is so cute! Do you buy your PUL through the coops? Also, you should think about switching to Boiron teething or Chamomilla. I've heard that some babies react to the lactose in Hylands...not sure that's going to help, of course, but if you can find the Boiron, it might help a little. Poor you...poor little Bea. I hope you both have a better night tonight!

Az - 'come on over - we've got ac CRANKING!!! ahhhhhhhh...

Nicole - Will is STUNNING! I can't even believe that little fella has been through so much! He looks incredibly vibrant and healthy. WOW MAMA!! You are doing SOMETHING right (read:mama milk to the rescue!)! Sorry we don't get to see Em. We have a bunch of photies of Beca with scratches, bumps, bruises etc. She was so active from such an early age, there wasn't much help for it, really. Photies, but not portraits LOL!

Lisa - sounds like you've got a handle on the crankies at your place LOL! I do that to Jerry, too. Some days he just needs a little extra snooze time, and then he's much more helpful around the place. Thanks for the laugh, too! Much needed. I am so not into my body right now, and having to wear a bathing suit for so many hours and try to nurse semi-discretely is not fun. I'm not enjoying it at all. Luckily, there is good shade at the pool, and Ori really doesn't seem to like the water at all, so I'm kind of off the hook. The whole time we were in the water today he kind of stuck his head under my arn (in the sling) and stayed there like a little birdie. The water wasn't too cold, not WARM but not COLD either. huh. actually, as a little one beca didn't like the water much, etiher. Now she's a total fish! She did a real dive off the diving board today YAY! Anyway, I think unless it's really super hot all week I'm not going to spend my time/energy on bathing suits. :

Karen - 'see' you when you get home! Have a safe flight, and I hope that Luka is ok...sending healthy vibes to you in LA!

Mary - Is it getting dark there at all??? Enjoy your week w/babe!!! You seem pretty spirited over there, too :LOL

Ok, off to read and sleep over here. Take care mamas, Hugs to all and healthy sleepy vibes too! Andy

Oh yeah - two other things. We're taking solids really slowly too. He's had a few tastes, but he isn't getting much in terms of bulk. Most he's had is avo and only two pieces smooshed up at one time (but it did make a little solid-ey turd LOL!). Cold cuke, a little smashed potato. That's about it - oh, a little hummus and some squash. Anyway, Joyce - wanted to say I think you're smart 'cause it seems like you have some flags going off to be careful, and I'm sure you'll be avoiding a total train smash by being careful. Is David interested in solids? And how does C. react if he's eating and she's not? Ahhhh - sibling stuff right from the get-go. How IIIIINNNNteresting (as the monster in Bugs Bunny always said).

Also:

We did a MAJOR road trip w/beca when she was weeny like six weeks old. Vancouver to the prairies, like 3500 miles all told. We drove JAC's truck and were all in the front seat (stupid, I know). I nursed a lot, but we didn't stop TOO much, like once every two hours. She was cool inthe seat 'cause we were RIGHT THERE with her. Then we did a big trip W. to E. coast (flying) and a big driving thing once here. It was ok - we enjoyed it a lot! The driving was ok, because she's always been a great traveller. She got used to the seat early on, and although she didn't LOVE it, she was happy in it after a bit. She learned to love music and books and toys, so it worked ok. Just my own exp. caio!

Back for a few minutes. One thing about DH is that he can sleep on cue. I don't know ohow he does it; I always need time to wind down. So this is my time.

Semi-offered a job, today. Would be working for another, more family-oriented nonprofit (from home). Could have a lot of benefit, but all my desire for risk-taking has gone out the window with C&D around. Hmph. Trying not to think about it too much before I go to sleep. Can't really talk to anybody about it right now, so it's just swirling around and around in my noggin. Sensitive subject, and who do I know right now that really understands my situation? Well, IRL, nobody, really. That's why you gals are so special.

Andy--no, we're not doing solids. We're barely even 5 mos adjusted, yet. They're awfully curious, though, and silly David was imitating my chewing the other day. Hilarious. Going to put it off as long as possible. Tell us more about your drum . . .

Mary--how do you have bedtime for the babe if it's always so bright? I rely on natural light a lot, here. Don't know what I would do if the sun set at 12 . . .

Annie, I second Andy. You're a real gem. Whatever you do and however you do it, we'll back you up.

Jeni--I'd LOVE to see your closet some day. You must have the funnest clothes! What a neat thing to do with Bea as she grows.

Heidi--you GO, girl!

Kathy--do you know Rosine Hall? She's in the ecology dept. you might like her. Tenured. No moving away problems.

stirring. better lie down with her . . .

Joyce - this drum is so cool! I just took some pics tonight, so I'll try to get them up tomorrow. I'm getting tired...

It's made by a Cuban fellow, and has a cool etching on the sides. It's totally tuneable, and has a mixed synthetic skin. The tone is a little high, very 'ringey' and mellow, like deep wind chimes. I'm in love...thanx for asking!

annie - what stroke of genius made you buy a house w/your mom instead of in name w/dh??? That was very smart, mama. No matter how nutty mamas can be, they are still our mamas. kwim? I'm glad she's backing you up, too, 'cause you are going to need her help. Maybe we'll come visit in the winter and you can come crash at the condo for a couple of nights... I'll see what's avail. Where's a great place - waikiki? tell me the good spots and I'll start looking. My friend is giving us her timeshare for 1 week for the cost of the place she has ($600 for the week). Since I don't htink we'd get a hotel for that kind of $$ it may be worth doing it ... don't know yet. This is what they have in Oahu...

Ok, now I'm REALLY going to bed. I've already nursed him once at 11, but I overpaid for the Dharma coop and had to refigure the finances there...took a while on one brain cell :LOL Hope you are all sleeping well, being well! Andy

Ok, NOW I'm really going... but I thought this one might be fun. I want to RELAX on this vacation. I think it does have a kitchen, which I'd like, but I'm not going to spend a ton of time cooking or anything. Just to save from having to eat out every meal with a 1 yr old, yk?

Ok, g'nite!
