Wow Jodi, good info about babies and their eyesight. I had no idea. Everyone in my family wears glasses, but we don't get them too early.
Oh, I have to get a pilot cap too. Everyone raves about them. How do you figure out sizing? Do you have to own a couple sizes to get throught the first year?
I will go check out the website.

YAY! I have my kitty back! The neighbor called over to say he was in her backyard right now. CJ was sleeping so I went over. He didn't come to me, but he responded to my calls by meowing and didn't run away from me as long as I moved slowly. He was scared but then melted in my arms when I picked him up.

When I went back, I put him in the garage (to separate him until I can be sure he isn't rabid or anything). Then I went in the house. CJ was crying again!!! I felt so awful! He must have been crying for a while (I was probably gone 10 minutes) because he was only whimpering but there were streams of tears. I feel so awful! But what was I to do? DH is in DC this weekend, my neighbors aren't home. So I took about an hour to nurse and snuggle, nurse and snuggle, and now he seems to be okay again. He's playing in his bouncy seat next to me, talking to his toys. I feel just so awful, though. I had promised him I would never do that to him, and here I have twice. Extenuating circumstances yes, but I still feel like such a bad mama.

Color me clueless.... LOL... I had no idea this thread existed until a few days ago!

I was an (infrequent) poster in the Due Dates Club. My DD Lily was born at home on Aug. 13 and is our first child. Everything has been going well. We have been the AP poster parents (exclusive BF, cosleeping, babywearing, etc.) and I can already see how it's paying off with Lily. She is a happy, healthy baby and weighs 15 lbs, almost doubling her birthweight.

My only complaint so far is pumping and working. My employer forced me to go back to work PT (3 days per week) when she was 8 weeks old (either that or lose my job) and I miss her terribly. Pumping is so uncomfortable and messing with bottles stinks. Those who FF by choice are nuts because messing with bottles is a PITA compared to the convenience of BF'ing!

I am so getting one of those pilot caps. Those that own them, do you think they run small or big? DD's head is now in the XS category but I want it to fit all winter and into spring.

re: pilot caps. I would get one XS and one Small to get through the whole winter and spring. AB is finally fitting her XS and there's still room to grow into it. One more reason they are great - they work even when they're a bit big. Hanna should be paying me the big bucks!

Feels amazingly like morning sickness, eh? I am watching these three children- exactly a year apart ( my sister's DD being right between my DSs) and it is so amazing- difficult, but amazing. I couldn't be pregnant unless it was an immaculate conception. We still haven't had sex. I'm finally ready, now we just have to get to it! Anyone else having the longest dry spell ever?

cradle cap - a form of eczema - could be a dairy issue, or could not be. ds has cradle cap, and i am now doing a strict dairy/soy elimination until his reflux is under control

jodi - leila is on prevacid, right? ds just got put on it - but we have the strawberry solutabs. is yours a liquid? sounds easier to me - these pills never quite dissolve. hope the glasses situation works out - dh had to get his at a yr old, but since the miracle of lasik doesn't need any now!

We're in that, um, dry spell too. It happened when DD1 was born too - I have serious hormone shifts when I'm nursing exclusively I guess, because I am just not interested! plus there's the whole birth control issue....DH keeps talking about getting snipped but he has yet to make an appointment, so we'll see what happens.

Plus DD1 has started waking EVERY night and wanting one of us to sleep w/her in her bed....so we are all sort of walking zombies ('cept Zoe, who gets plenty of sleep and can't walk anyway).

Z is in a size xs pilot cap, btw. Hey, we could do a little pilot cap co-op -- Hanna shipping is killer. I'm actually returning some stuff to them (yes I have a buying problem ) so I can place a replacement order w/free shipping and then ship to y'all at the cheapest rate. LMK if you are up for that - pm me or email me (ourhouse@toad.net).

Anyone have ideas for a good pack-n-play alternative? Dh wants a place to put the baby when she naps and he's not wearing her. Her crib is upstairs, way out of earshot of where DH and DD1 usually play (plus one of our cats has taken to sleeping in it, since Zoe never does). Are pack-n-plays actually comfortable? What about just a great big basket? Any ideas are welcome.

Oh - we might be able to get chicken pox! DD1's friend's babysitter's kids (got that?) have them. We are seeing said friend tomorrow and I'm tempted to send DD1 to the babysitter's house next week. I read up on it and apparently DD2 is protected by my immunity, but could still get a mild case. I'd love for them to just get it and get it over with, yk?

Hanna hats? Robeez? It's a good thing I come here, because I had never heard of ANY of this stuff before.

Kristin -- I'm happy to hear your good cat news!

Adrienne -- WAHMing is hard with a wee one. I've been doing it for 2 weeks. The first week was really hard but the second was better. What worked for me was to sling the baby and wear her in my lap. She nurses/sleeps/nurses/sleeps most of the day that way. I figure that approach should work for another few months. When she becomes more active, I don't know what I'll do.

Carrie, it's a liquid, but they mixed it with hershey's syrup, which I just don't understand. Leila HATES it and spits it out constantly. She didn't spit out the nasty mint zantac, but she spits out chocolate. I need to get her refill in a few days, and I'm going to see what other options they have.. I just have issues with giving my infant chocolate.

Our dry spell is so bad it's a fire hazard!!!!!

We took The Cuteness to the ped today because he had been screaming almost non-stop for two days and I wanted them to check his ears. He was all sweetness and light as soon as we got in there. He was so cute when being examined--all smiles and coos--it was actually pretty funny. The dr was almost laughing while examining him. Then he started SCREAMING on the way out of the office. Oh, well...his ears are fine anyway.

(He's almost 15 lbs at 11 weeks!!!!)

Jamie--how's the lump situation? We're thinking about you and Jonathan!!!

I better go to bed...we have to sandbag my in-laws house in the morning. We're getting some crazy rain here in Oregon. Yuck...I don't know where we're going to get the extra energy for that.

Have a great weekend!!!!

Adrienne - thanks for asking Johnathan is fine. The lump is a hydrocele, supposedly common and will go away on its own as long as it doesn't get any bigger or get any intestine stuck in there.

Sorry your little guy has been fussy, hope he feels better. At least you know his ears are fine. Hope the rain slows down for you!

Well, Jamie. Sounds like you and I are having enough sex for everyone else. Sorry about the dry spell, ladies. Hope it rains soon.

Annabelle has hit a developmental plateau of sorts. Nothing new this week. She is talking a bit, but not laughing. Her smile just makes me melt. Oh, yeah, she is reaching for one thing during her diaper changes. I think the really crunchy moms call it a "yoni". You go girl!

She has taken to going to sleep at night a bit earlier since the time change and is sleeping longer and longer at night and not so much during the day. The earlier bedtime is great because it coincides with dd1's bedtime and lets me and dh have some alone time together. Last night she slept for 10 hours and then nursed and then went back to sleep for another two hours. She only takes two/ 1.5 or 2 hour naps during the day.

I love the three month mark. We are past the fussiness mostly and she is pretty content for extended periods of time. She sat in my lap while I got a pedicure yesterday (for a whole hour) and also spent an hour in her bouncy chair at one point. I've taken to calling her "baby no needs". Just SOOOOOO much different from dd1.

I went to the thrift yesterday and got a bunch of 3-6 month clothes for her. Used baby things are great because they wear them for so short a time.

Can anyone recommend a pump that works well and is affordable?

Kate, how often do you need to pump?
My friend, an occasional pumper, swears by the Avent Isis (handheld).

ETA: I also received a coupon in the mail for $5.00 off a Gerber handheld if you decide on that one that I could mail to you.

I have the Gerber massaging handheld and I liked it until it lost suction after about two months. Now it takes about half an hour just to get an ounce. I've been going to try to excange it if I can find the reciept.

Hi all,

Just wanted to poke in. I have been busy with the kids...Angela is doing great. She is my best sleeper, so far. Carter still wakes up more than her!
I will try to stay more in touch this month. It is good to read about you all.

I had best go to bed...lack of sleep does not do well for me.

Gosh, what did I miss? :LOL

We had a good weekend. I took my first super long walk since having the baby. It was fun and I was wearing out on my way home -- wow am i out of shape now! -- but I was good for 90% of it and am feeling good about exercising more. We're having fantastic warm weather. I hate global warming, of course, but a 70-degree November isn't bad. I just try and not think about the ice caps.

How long should DD be sleeping? Is it okay if she doesn't want a feeding?

We got into a wacky cycle where we stopped swaddling because she outgre the blanket and then she didn't sleep as long and then she wanted to nurse all the time. My sleep is interrupted and I'm exhausted. So I've got her swaddled tonight and am hoping for several hours of uninterrupted sleep.

I have an Avent hand-held and it's wonderful! LMK if you'd like a link to it, and I'll put one on the thread.

Well, I kinda wish we were in a dry spell here... DH looks so lonely and un-loved -I've tried to ignore the fact that my sex-drive has dissapeared. But is has. It's beginning to bother me... because I really want to want him, kwim?

Is anyone else struggling with "last child" syndrome?? Andrew was to be our last... we decided this based on many things... and our family is complete...betautifull complete. BUT...I cannot helo but feel extreme sadness in facing the fact that this chapter in life of bearing children...is behind me.

Wish us luck because my dh and I leave in the morning for a conference with little Clara in tow--her first flight! Yikes! I've been reading up on flying with babies, and we're all healthy as can be, so I think it will be fine. I don't get nervous about flying, but I am feeling a bit nervous now about the whole scene with her. Fortunately it's just a short flight and we're actually only going for one night, so even if it's awful, we'll be in our own bed again on tuesday night! We're going to hear my favorite author, Wendell Berry, speak. Anyway, I have to go finish packing...

I'm with you there. We don't want more children (so I had a tubal ligation) and our family is absolutely perfect.. but it is bittersweet, definitely.

Katie-

How is it going with your blended family? I recall you saying DH didn't want DD near your ex and you didn't blame him but it was hard because of DD#1. Did you find some support?
