HI. I was new to the site when I gave birth, but I thought I'd introduce myself. My name is Leslie, and my ds is also a Feb. baby. He was born Feb. 25, 2006. I was 39 weeks pregnant, but it was actually his original due date before it changed after the first u/s. He weighed 7lbs. 13oz. at birth.
Things were going well the first 3 weeks and then all of a sudden, ds started spitting up excessively. He saw a Ped. the next day who saw nothing wrong with him. Two days later, he vomiting forcefully so we made an ER visit. Doctor there said he wasn't dehydrated and that nothing serious was wrong, but made us a Ped. follow-up visit for the next day.
We got to the PEDS clinic (Military) the next day where ds begins projectile vomiting and is definitely dehydrated. He was admitted to the hospital immediately, and within a few hours, he was diagnosed with Pyloric Stenosis. (http://www.pedisurg.com/PtEduc/Pyloric_Stenosis.htm)
. He went into surgery the next day to correct it. Recovery didn't go well at first and wasn't allowed to eat for 24 hours, but finally things started to turn around and he was able to keep some Pedialyte down and then we worked our way back to breastfeeding. He's had no problems since. I wasn't happy to have had to introduce the pacifier (his only comfort when he couldn't eat for so long) and bottle to him at just 3 weeks, but it was necessary. And I've seen no negative effects from it. He's back to EBF now.
Now, we're just working on getting his weight back up. He's still under his birth weight at 4.5 weeks old, but he's eating like crazy so I expect him to start gaining quickly.
My poor little boy went through the ringer, but I'm happy now that he is healthy and happy again.
Well, it's almost time for us to go on a walk.
