On Tuesday morning, DD woke up with an awful diaper rash: small, red fluid filled blisters, mostly concentrated around the tops of her legs and top of the diaper. I kept her out of a diaper for most of the day, and kept her as clean as possible. The rash spread to her bum area. On Wednesday morning, she woke up, the rash had spread to her bum and genitals, and a few spots down her legs and arms. These spots (on her arms/legs) were a lot less red and inflamed looking (and not fluid filled). The "blisters" in her diaper area (about 1-2 mm) had popped/regressed/flattened out (only the bigger ones popped), and just looked angry now. I was worried that it was chicken pox, so I took her to the doctor. The doctor *thinks* it is a coxsackie virus (a la hand, foot and mouth disease), but she doesn't have blisters anywhere on her arms, legs, hands, or feet-it is concentrated in the diaper area, with a few random spots elsewhere, and smaller, pink spots on her arms/legs outside of her hands and tops of her feet. He said it was definitely not MMR or chicken pox, but what the heck is it? The Dr also ruled out yeast, as the rash is very different from a yeast rash, and her mouth doesn't look "thrushy". She has blisters on her palate, making it difficult to nurse, poor thing...and a low grade fever.
I am wondering about a couple of things:
Has anyone's DC had a rash like this? How long did it take to go away?
What did you do to make them more comfortable?

Thanks! I am hoping today will be the turning point, and that she'll start healing up.

Hi there, my 7 month baby girl also started the same way. She had never had a diaper rash before so it was weird to my husband and I that all of a sudden she had one and that it was sooo bad. Then, almost a week later she had the spots all over her body, and I thought oh no! the measles. She had no blisters really other than the diaper area. None in the mouth either. The dr. said it was hand foot mouth disease but I'm still left wondering weather it was or wasnt (i would like to know which virus she is immune to or not).

They are almost gone now. Just wondering if you finally figured out what it was.

I think she caught it after only 1 swim class! because we arent around any other children except those two classes we took before she broke out and even though I never saw any child with weird red blisters on them I do know that some kids don't even show symptoms (I myself caught something too but the dr said mines is a flue like version with no blisters or spots).

I left my career to stay home with my baby and avoid day care ilnesses until shes older and this is what we get! : I;ve canceled swim classes for now even though her instructor called me and said i couldnt keep my daughter in a bubble. Hello! I should stay home regardless to avoid contaminating others!!! It can be in the feces for up to 3 months. With that mentality, no wonder my daughter caught it! I can understand day care is a necessity but swim classes? Comon, those parents should have kept their sick kids home for longer. Certainly recreational activities can wait a little if it means helping other parents avoid this disease.

Thanks for listening Just scratching my head here.
