My 11 month old son has been itching his ear lately so we took him to the dr. We were told that he has swimmer's ear. The problem is that we are flying out of the country this week for a wedding. The doctor said it would be alright for DS to fly, but I am a little nervous.

Does anyone know if it is safe to fly if you have swimmer's ear?

thanks...(I don't always trust the doctor's advice. sorry)

Yes, it will be fine to fly.

Swimmer's ear (otitis externa) is an infection in the ear canal.

Otitis media (what you normally think of when you hear "ear infection") is an infection in the middle ear. It sits behind the ear drum and can make the ear drum bulge and be uncomfortable. It can cause a build up of pressure behind the ear drum and hence the crying from pain. Flying could aggrevate this.

It won't be a problem to fly because of the ears.
