Dd cut her third tooth (her front upper right) yesterday. When dh was changing her diaper this morning he noticed her gums to the right of the new tooth was purple and bruised . This tooth did give her a really hard time (way worse then the first two) but a bruise? Has anyone had this happen to any of your dc? Should I take her in to see her doctor? I feel so bad for her.

Hello, yes both my kids had bruised swollen gums, perfectly normal. I even noticed a purplish streak across their upper lips when they were teething. Nothing to be concerned about.

in The Baby Book, Dr. Sears says it is common to see blue spots on the gum--it's blood under the surface. My baby had what looked like a bruise on hers, right above the emerging tooth...it went away in a day or so.

I'm glad to hear it is not uncommon. Ds never had anything like that when he was teething. She is definitely doing better today and the bruise is looking better. Thanks ladies!
