Where do you sit in the car if someone else is driving? I usually sit in the back when DH is driving, so I can entertain Aaron, or take a nap if he does...but I tend to get strange looks. Any other back-seat sitters?

because we have 3 kids in the backseat of our Buick, and the kids generally hate when I sit on their laps.

However, even before 3 kiddos, I would rarely sit in the back unless I was nursing over the side of the carseat. I get carsick really easily. One trip in the backseat will leave me nauseated for the remainder of the day.

I voted front seat, because that is where I sit now, there is only room for two car seats in our back seat. When we were only 3 in the family I sat in the back with dd1 until she could face forward.

Front seat here as well. We have 3 in the back so I don't think they'd like me on their laps either.

I voted in the back...but I didn't read the question and I thought it was a poll about where the children sit: duh....I usually sit in the front seat unless we are going on a very long carride without our 8 year old dd. Then I will sit in the back seat to entertain Kaeleb. My dh hates rear facing car seats with an awesome passion! So, for the first 3 months of Kaeleb's life I sat in the back all of the time .

With 2 rear-facing britax roundabouts in the back seat of our jeep cherokee, there's not a whole lot of room for me! That said, I tried to sit back there a couple of times when the boys were unhappy. It didn't help at all. In fact, they seemed more upset to be able to see me and have me not pick them up. So I sit in the front now. However, I often have an arm basck there, and take turns holding each of their hands if they're sad. They like that .

If dh is driving, I'm always in the back with dd. She's usually happy to sit in her car seat. At 4 1/2 months, she prefers to play rather than sleep in the car seat. I'd just feel neglectful if I sat in the front. I figure it's a good time to have interactive play - I've got a 'captive' audience

I do both now that dd is 7m. old. If she is upset I sit in the back, otherwise I sit in front.

I sit in the front unless Maddie is having a very hard time. But often I just hold her hand from the front, which seems to help (sometimes I feel like me sitting back there "entertaining" or trying to comfort her is keeping her from falling asleep...)

I sit in the front seat. We have 2 carseats in the back of our small car, so there would be no room for me even if I wanted to sit back there! LOL When my DS was a newborn, I sat back there with him a few times b/c his head was always falling forward and I was very paranoid about it.

I always sit in back to take care of my daughter. Since she's only a couple months she has to sit backwards and I can't stand to not be able to at least do something to soothe her if possible.

I think once she sits forwards I probably won't bother since I could turn around and look at her.

front. always the front. unless I have a newborn who is fussing then I consider it my me time.

The truest answer to violence is love. The truest answer to death is life. The only prevention for violence is for the heart to have no violence within it.  We cannot prevent evil through any system devised by mankind. But we can grapple with evil and defeat it, but only with love—real love.

It depends. If it's just a short trip, I sit in front. DS seems to prefer it that way. He actually likes his carseat and seems to enjoy sitting in the backseat by himself. When I sit beside him, I think it bugs him that I'm right there but won't hold him.

I do, however, sit in the back sometimes when we're on a long trip. DS is 5 months old and has already been to Texas and Michigan by car. We've also taken a few shorter weekend trips. If we stop and I can tell that he isn't going to go to sleep when we get back in the car, I get in the back with him to keep him entertained.

I sit in front. We have a Pontiac Grand Am and with the two car seats in the back seat, the little 7yo I babysit can barely squeeze in the middle.

I have great hips for childbearing which means I can't squeeze anywhere! :LOL

Dh has a job prospect that would pay a lot more and if that happens I'm going to pay extra on the car payments for a few months so that we could break even when we trade in for a mini van!

I'm back seat all the way--even on short trips. I like being able to act quickly if ds gets cranky. I'm trying to help him have positive associations with the car until he gets used to it.
