I x-posted this in the childhood years, but I wanted to get your input as well, because I'm guessing that my 3 year old son's behavior has something to do with my daughter's birth....

I just don't know what to do with him. As background, my daughter was born 3 months ago (March 1st). But the thing is that Owen (my DS) absolutely LOVES his sister - we've had no problems with agression towards her or jealousy. So I'm not sure if her birth is what's causing his behavior problems or not...

Basically, Owen has become unbelievably nasty towards me and my DH. He CONSTANTLY says nasty, awful things to us. For example, if we don't do something he wants (like give him candy), he will say "mommy, you are a BAD BAD person!". Several times, he has said that he wants a new mommy. He constantly says that we are bad. And he asks for things by yelling at us, and saying "NOW!!". Of course, I do not do whatever he asks when he uses that tone, but what the heck is causing this? We (my DH and I) do not talk like this at home.

He is in preschool, two mornings a week, and I am guessing that he learned this rude language from the other kids there. I completely trust the teachers there - they are truly wonderful, and I REALLY like them.

So what is causing him to be so nasty towards us? Any ideas? Any ideas of how to handle this? At first, I tried talking to him about it, explaining that it was hurtful. That seemed to make it worse, so I'm now trying to ignore the rude language all together.

If anyone has any input on this, I would love to hear it. I feel like the worst mother in the world right now. My sweet, loving boy has turned into this nasty, rude, totally obnouxious little kid, and I have no clue what to do about it.

Please see the poster's thread in the Childhood forum. Good luck, mama! You might also have better luck and be on-topic if you posted in gentle discipline.
