I was shopping in BRU today with dd and overheard the following conversation that made me want to bitch-slap this lady:
Little boy (probly grandson): Points to "heartbeat bear" and says "HEY, let's get that for the baby to help it sleep".
Grandma: No, babies need to sleep by themselves and go to sleep without help. (ME: )
Boy: "Why, they're just little?"
Grandma: "So we don't have to deal with them all the time".
ME: Violently restraining myself from saying something I would regret later.
I post on other boards, but I know that this is the only place I could vent these feelings without condemnation and be perfectly understood. How utterly contemptible that this woman would teach this innocent little boy something so unnatural and false and cruel about tiny babies; I truly hope someone else more compassionate and EDUCATED comes along at some point and teaches this little guy the gentle way to parent babies. I mean, I understand you cannot always instantly get the baby when it cries, and that it is nice that if they get older, they go to sleep on their own, as some do, but it is criminal and harmful to expect a newborn to fall asleep all on its little lonesome. Ugggh!!
Now I feel much better .

That is just terrible.

That poor little babe. Maybe Grandma isn't around too much; that is why the little boy is so sweet.

So we don't have to deal w/ them all the time.

You know that's exactly why I had children! So I could carry them for 9 mos, bf them (soon for #2), love 'em, and then just forget about them at night time

This makes me really, really .

Poor little guy has the right idea (sorta, I mean, it would be better for the baby to be near its parents, but the little boy has no control over that) and his grandmother is squashing it all down. I feel so sad when little kids are told their ideas are no good anyway.

This is soooo sad for the baby. Maybe the parents aren't like this grandma is. I hope not.
