My ds is 10 months and has only 2 teeth but he has been rejecting the mushy stuff and want chewable food. When is it ok to do this? thanks

Mine has consisterntly rejected all mushy baby food. We only do finger foods. He is 8 mo. He doesn't eat a lto but what he does eat he feeds himself (we bf 95% of his nutrition, at least). Carbs that break down in saliva are the easiest for him: zweiback, biter biscuits, veggie booty (his fave!), toast, etc. We also now can get him to eat watermelon, carrots (sometimes), baked potato, and a few other oddities. I say go for it, just keep an eye on him. I try not to let my kid crawl or walk around while eating, as it's all so new.

Like the post above, dd is 8.5 mo and has never eaten too much mush and prefers to feed herself (as a result I have a freezer full of homemade babyfood that's not getting eaten!). We typically stick to foods that easily dissolve, like the ones mentioned above. She also likes small chunks of ripe avacado, banana, peaches, plums, pears, watermelon, canteloupe. A favorite right now is graham crackers (she has her top teeth, so she can bite off pieces). I also give her small pieces of well-steamed veggies, like carrots, broccoli (prefers the stems), and greenbeans. Tofu soaked in juice was very popular, but I think she's getting tired of it (press out the water before soaking). She's also eaten pieces of rice cakes, cheerios, toast, potatoes, small pieces of cheese...We still BF 5-8 times a day, but she does love to eat!

HTH!

My (almost) 7 month old has been doing finger foods since we introduced solids at six months. I waited till she had teeth, could sit independently, and had the intrest. She loves to eat. Here are some of her favorites that tend to 'mush' easily between the gums

plum chunks
ripe peach chunks
avacado
cheerios
peeled grapes cut up
bananas (but they make her constipated)
