I like bananas or steamed, mushed, apples for a first food. No real reason other then they are easy to prepare and my babies have always loved them.

I gave rice cereal from the healthfood store mixed with pureed prunes. She, however, got over that pretty quickly and we still have well over half the box left. She's now about 7 months old and her first favorites were sweetpotatoes, butternut squash, avacado, and peas. The peas are the Gerber variety and the rest are cooked then mashed in the blender.

Evergreen- Loving my girls Dylan dust.gifage8, Ava energy.gifage 4 and baby Georgia baby.gif (6/3/11).

We did bananas first, then avacado. So far, I've only given her a tiny bit of each. She seems to be really enjoying the experience!

The first food that DD actually swallowed rather than spitting it out was some broccoli off my plate, mashed with my fork.
After that, she'd eat just about anything I was eating, as long as I mushed it up first. Oatmeal and grits were (and still are) big hits.
