Just wondering how much "awake" time a 1 month old should have daily? other than breastfeeding my little guy is not awake that much....and when he is awake he just wants to eat. Today, especially I could not put him in cradle to sleep, he would only sleep on me. Everytime I put him in cradle he would cry.

My second dd didn't stay awake a lot at this age (maybe 2 periods of 45 minutes a day + tons of breastfeeding time). I was kind of worried, but now I wish she would sleep like she used to:
At this age, she didn't want to sleep anywhere except in my arms, but by at 2 months, I put her down in her crib (yes, we have one me if you want) and she napped in it without any problem.
Use a sling if you have to do things, or even better ,ask your dh to do them for you, a sleepy baby is such a great excuse to relax a little :LOL

good question, I'm wondering that myself. Mine was sleeping quite a lot at 4 weeks, but now at 6 weeks is having more wakeful periods. Thursday she was awake for a lot of the day, the slept for 8 straight hours. Then last night she was fussy and awake until after midnight, but slept most of today.

Yeah, for the first month or so they sleep for about 20 hrs a day. I say take advantage of it by getting plenty of sleep/rest yourself while the baby's sleeping.

Our little boy will be 7wks on Monday and he sleeps most of the time. He is also carried about 95% of the time in the sling so that probably effects him. When I do try to put him down when he has fallen asleep he's awake w/i minutes. He needs to have the human touch and warmth to sleep for long periods.
