OK, I will coordinate the bead swap since I have some time on my hands right now (and who knows what is lurking around the corner :LOL )

Now the questions....

1. Do you want to participate?

2. Should we have the coordinator assemble the necklaces or just send the beads to the participants (so you can assemble your own necklace, bracelet, whatever...)? A nice way of doing this would be for each person to include a little note (one for each bead) with theirs so we know who sent which bead and how they picked it out. In that case, we might want to just have the coordinate sort and send, and assemble them ourselves.

I will go to Michaels this weekend and check out beads and strings so we can make sure we get on the same page as far as hole size (we had an issue with this at a Mother Blessing I attended). I am thinking we take sign ups for the next week and have everyone mail their beads by Sept 1. Does this sound ok?

So like someone else said if we have 20 participants, you pick 20 of the same bead, send them to the coordinator (me) and I will repackage them so each person gets 20 different beads. Then we can wear our birth necklace or bracelet during labor and think of our EC!

So who's game?

I'm in! Bensmom, shall we also send a few stamps or something? We'll all be sending just one package to you, but you'll be sending out a bunch! And 20 or so beads times 20 or so pacakages could get pricy at the post office...

Yeah, I think you should send the stamps for however much it took for you to send to me. Does that make sense? Since 20 beads would be coming and going. I can't imagine it would be that much.

I'm in!

I know that in a crafting swap I was in once, we sent the coordinator prepaid Priority Mail labels (I think? I don't remember the details) and she was able to use some type of free box from the post office. Does anyone know about this?

I think for something small like beads, priority mail might be overkill. I think its a minimum of $3.85 and I can't imagine 20 beads would be more than $1 or so to ship. I will see what kind of cheap envelopes I can buy. Maybe at the Dollar Store or something.

Count me in. Are we concerned about colors at all, or just any bead with the right size hole?

Count me in too. I think the same hole size is a must. I love the idea of wearing the neckless or braclet to our birth.

~bensmom~ I think you assembling all the beads might be too much. I think you should organize and send us all our beads and tell us what size string or whatever to buy and we string them ourselves. Then we could decide if we want both or just the neckless or braclet. That's my 2 cents worth . . .

I'm definately in. This is too cool!

I'd be up for assembling it myself - WAY too much work for 1 mama!

Also...wondering how the post would work for us internationals (Canada...some Oz maybe?)

I'm up for each person assembling their own--easier on everyone plus it gives us time to look at each bead and think about the sender/message, etc. Good idea!

Thanks for coordinating, BensMom!

Then maybe for the US mamas, they would include the correct number of stamps, but the Int'l mamas can just send me the correct amount of money for return shipping (paypal, would be easiest?)

DiD- compromise? I'll do the birth beads swop, if people will have me, but not the 3rd trimester (because the postage charges from the US to here are so high.) Besides, that way it's not as catastrophic if something goes wrong.

I'd love to participate!

Jenn, if you are determining hole size by what type of stringing-thing that you are going to look at at Michaels, it might be a good idea to get each participating mom a piece of appropriately-sized-whatever to string on, even if she does the actual stringing herself. What do you guys think about that? That way, we won't have to go chasing around town looking for a string after we get the packages with the beads! I'd be happy to throw in a couple of bucks for that too . . . .

I am so in!!! I replied to the other swap with this:

"About the beading, the coordinator can just send the beads (not strung) out in a small bag or something. It will be better b/c we are all different sizes, may want to add a certain clasp, may want a bracelet and not a necklace, etc...plus it is a lot of work for one person to do all of that stringing for each of us. She would have to buy the wire, clasps, and tools to make the jewelry. A bit much, in my opinion. If we do it ourselves, we can each add our own touch to it. Just sending the beads only is how I have seen it done on other threads. I do some beading myself, too. Some bead swappers chose a particular color or group of colors for consistency. I am up for whatever, though!"

The wire that works for a variety of projects for me is .015 C-Flex (49 strand beading wire). I buy it in 30 ft. rolls. If there is a bead shop anywhere near you, they will sell you a piece long enough for your project and help you create it. There shouldn't be any charge for the help if you go in and sit at one of the tables. Most people like to help. It might costs .60 for the beading wire. You would have to pay for a clasp, too...couple of bucks depending on what material it's made of. They can help you secure the clasp.

I am still a novice and still learning stuff though!

OK? Anyone else? I will count up at the end of the day today, so we know how many beads to buy. I will post the details tomorrow and then lets shoot for getting the beads in the mail to me by Sept 3rd! That should give them plenty of time to get here from all points of the globe and get them back to you guys before we start popping out babies! :LOL
