Thinking of everyone down there. Just heard on the news that the roof of the superdome in New Orleans is peeling away, and there are around 10k people in there who coulnd't afford to evacuate the city.

Hope everyone is safe and well

We're in her eventual path and they are predicting tropical storm force winds as far north as we are (we are almost in Memphis, TN).

We have lots of family who are in for more direct hits though...all our ppl are supposedly in safe places but may have property damage and flooding. The schools are all closed near my mom's (she in central Mississippi) and they are predicting hurricane force winds where she is this afternoon.

Does anyone know how low pressure systems affect pregnancy? I've felt many more BH contractions today and baby seems very active. Just wondering if it was related (I feel kinda anxious myself, actually)

If you're close to delivery a big storm with a dramatic drop in pressure can start labor - it worked for me last time! I went into labor after a HUGE thunderstorm with tornado warnings (the sirens went off and everything - we're in Kansas), just the day before my midwife told me that she didn't see any correlation with labor and the full moon, but anytime there was a big storm L&D was full - and it was that night!

I seriously doubt you have anything to worry about at 7-8 months pregnant, though. (When the storm put me into labor I was 38 weeks, dialated to 6cm already, and at least 80% effaced.)

Mama to DS (05/04) and DD (11/05), married to a wonderful DH.

Wow, that is crazy - I have never heard of that!

Ever-evolving mama to my beautiful Brynn, and my little dimple-face Noah .

We just got our internet back this morning...Katrina knocked it out. My inlaws lost the home they had built on the Mississippi Gulf Coast for their retirement home (they are pastors and have lived in church owned parsonages for 30 years)...they retire next June. Maybe they will be able to rebuild by then.

My mom is still without power, but they are running a generator to keep the freezer from spoiling. We've possibly got other family members who are homeless...I'm not sure than any have gotten back in to look yet.

I did have lots of BH and little sleep the night of the storm, but baby stayed put (I knew he would).

Christa, so sorry about your ILs home. I hope they can rebuild. Its going to take a long time to rebuild parts of this country.

We had some tornados in this area, but not really near our house, so no loss of power. I almost feel guilty, going about my silly life when so many others are suffering!

Glad you guys came out ok!
