Alrighty. We've got it narrowed down to 2 names. We both agree on both of them, but we each like one better than the other. We went to make a teddy bear at my work yesterday, and couldn't do the birth certificate for the bear because we didn't know the baby's name.

I love Elias, I think it sounds really elegant. I don't really like Phoenix that much, not really sure why. It kind of seems more like a childish name for some reason. But I can imagine Elias as both a cuddly little boy and a grown up man.

I basically have the opposite response as Hollin!!! I think Phoenix is very regal; whereas Elias seems, I don't know-- a mouthful? The downside is that I cannot think of a nickname for Phoenix (except Feeney, which makes me think of "Boy Meets World"); and I always though Eli was a good nickname.

Huh. Well, I voted for Phoenix.

Elias is fine & dandy, but I love, love, LOVE Phoenix!

As far as nicknames go, I could see calling a Phoenix "Phoe (fee)" or "Nix," and I guess if he wanted a more mainstream name later on, he could go by Nick. But I love just Phoenix.

I didn't really understand the pronunciation you listed for Elias, though. I've only ever heard it "e-LIE-us" or "uh-LIE-us"....but what you wrote makes me think it's like Elliott but with an S on the end instead of a T?

It's the e-LIE-us. I couldn't think of a good way to put it. Thanks! THat's the right way. I'm rooting for Elias.. I like it. It's not abnormal-sounding, and no one will second guess 'Eli' as a name. Phoenix is really cool, too. It's a hard decision.

I like Elias. What about a combination of the two? Pheonix Elias or Elias Pheonix?

Just a thought.

I still like Elias.

I like Phoenix. Eventhough its more letters, its less syllables than Elias. I like shorter-to-say names. Imagine yelling for your kids that dinner is ready, you don't want a mouthful of a name. They are both really nice though. I don't think Phoenix needs a nickname, with just two syllables, no need.

I know a Phoenix. He has no nickname, just Phoenix.

I like both names. I pronounce Elias differently than you though. I pronounce it ee-lee-us, actually that's not right but..i pronounce it as in Spanish (think actor Elias Koteas, if you know who he is). I like both names a lot.

Namaste, Tara

The only Phoenixes I've known have been girls... so I think of it as a girl name. I like Elias.

I picked Phoenix, mainly because I know how to pronounce it. Elias is ok too, but I never am sure quite how to say it.

We almost did Ilia, which is very similar to what you are thinking about. But dh is too conventional so we went with Elijah.

We still haven't decided. We need to. But, when he comes out, I guess we'll look at him and know who he is. So, there we go. Thanks for voting!

I love Phoenix and have gone back and forth about using it as a mn someday for one of our little ones. I think it has an awesome sound and I LOVE the meaning of it. Please use it!!!!
