In talking with georgia the admin, we will now have a thread in here of links to blogs we own or read, but the links must meet two conditions:
  1. They are PM'd to me versus posted to the board.
  2. When they are placed into the resources thread, member names will not be attached to the links so it will not appear as 'advertising' for the individual blog or article owners. Members will be able to choose which blogs they choose to read based on blog title or topic. (topics will be listed -- I am only just starting as I just got permission to work on this for us)

The links will live in the stickied resources thread, currently post #2.

INSTRUCTIONS:

If you would like your blog or a favorite blog added to our list, please PM me its link, title, slogan or description, and no more than two categories listed here you think it fits in best.

When links are placed into the resources thread, member names will not be attached to the links so it will not appear as 'advertising' for the individual blog or article owners. Members will be able to choose which blogs they choose to read based on blog title or topic, keeping us in line with the User Agreement and Signature Rules.

All of those and:

homeschooling
unschooling
traditional foods
politics

What if our blog is all of these? Any multiple listing?

Multiple listings would be a must really for many Mama blogs. I like all those headings. We should add

Off-grid Living

Appalachian mountain woman, radical homemaker, homeschooler, childbirth educator, and doula loving her DH and three powerful little femmes. Deladis 8-4-05, Ivy 4-28-08, and Gweneth 7-21-12 HBA2C! hbac.gif  -  blogging.jpg ribboncesarean.gif

I agree that multiple listings would be a must. Most blogs are by nature hard to categorize under one topic.

My blog is about:
life as an expat/immigrant, art, and culture, with a little bit of parenting and crafting thrown in.

In/fertility? Birth pros?

My category is really feminism, but if there's not enough interest I can shoehorn it in elsewhere.

Thanks so much for taking this on!

There should be a category for loss and/or grieving mommas. A lot of us have blogs.

I have a question, too. My blog is password protected because of some family issues, but I am happy for anyone here to read it. Would it be possible to put a link to PM me for a password, or should I just not list mine here?

I imagine this is going to be a lot of work - thanks for doing it for us!

Considering the board is split into subsections, would it not make sense to have the blogs in a similar layout.

That way there's a main list with all the links, and then in the forum perhaps in the resources thread of each forum section there could be a link to just the blogs which deal with that forum section.

And I second Rachele, loss blogs are important, perhaps a section for loss and a section for pregnancy after loss as some people start a new blog each time. Also if you want help dealing with loss you might want to be able to choose to avoid the pregnancy after a loss blogs and just read the loss blogs.

I have been adding categories here using the ideas posted here as they come up. I'm trying to keep similar topics as one category name so as to not make things too diluted.

Concise blog titles and slogans/bylines (both of which I will include in the listing if you provide me with them ) in addition to 1-2 category listings will, I think, be the best way to give a good snapshot as to what your blog is about.

Thank you all so much for your help with this!! I have several PMs of blogs links in my inbox (yay!). I am off to add those next.

You're very welcome!

I'm still working my way through links. I'm so sorry I haven't been able to reply to everyone. I've had 60+ PMs with all of your awesome blogs. I have about 10? more to add.

If you all could check your listing to see if it is in the 1-2 categories you would like it in (no more than 2 please!), that would be really helpful. I think I missed 1 or 2.

I'm confused by the three links at the Resources pages. The Twittering Moms link goes to the same list of blogs. ?? Nothing about Twitter.

Also, for many bloggers, it is going to be difficult to pick only two categories. Most mama bloggers write about way more than two of those categories. While there are many single issue blogs, many more discuss at least five or six of the list topics.

Last question (for now): if one blogs an issue that can't be discussed on MDC per the UA, is one barred from the listing? I don't mean a blog entirely about an issue not discussed here. I mean a blog that discusses, say, feminist parenting and includes blog posts on abortion sometimes. Does the entire blog content have to meet the UA for the blog to be on the list?

Many thanks.

Ruh roh. That's probably a linking error on my part. I will peek.

I understand it may be difficult to describe a blog more broadly, but it is necessary and workable. We simply cannot have blogs listed multiple times in multiple places within one post. We need this list to be easy to put together, easy for members to read, and easily following the guidelines/rules.

If you each give me your byline and description of your blog, those are included with your listing in the up to two categories of your choosing (many of you have already done this for me - thanks for that!) and our members can read what topics you offer right next to your title.

Good question! I have a feeling I know the answer, but I need to pass this on to the admin, georgia. I'll do that now.

No, we're not moderating blog content. I like to assume that as adults, members can simply choose not to return if the contents are offensive or not of interest, etc. If we get complaints that a blog disparages our community or members, we do reserve the right to remove it from our resource list.

I have retired from administration work, so if you have a question about anything MDC-related, please contact Cynthia Mosher. Thanks!

Ok. I think, think I am up to date on my PMs and have everyone listed, save for a few blogs I needed further information to include with your listing.

If I only have you listed once and you would like to be added to a second category, or if you would like to provide a 1-2 sentence byline or description of your blog (what ProBlogger calls an Elevator Pitch) please feel free to PM me and I will add them!
