HerthElde (Earth Warrior)

I am a warrior,
Recruited by Odinn
to the service of the Gods
Commissioned by Frija
to defend the future bairn.

I carry not spear,
not sword nor shield,
though battle-ready I be
My weapons are my knowledge-lust
My wisdom and my heart

In defense of Midgard
Against Corporate Jotuns
I wield my loom, my yarn, my kitchen skills

In defense of my progeny
Against restrictive paradigms
I wield a healing heart and hand

I am a warrior
I fight for Midgard
I bestow upon my children and
my children's bairn
The strength, ability and desire
to question "Why?"

I am a Warrior.

I enjoyed this poem. My favorite lines are:

"In defense of my progeny
Against restrictive paradigms
I wield a healing heart and hand"

I can relate well to them, even though baby isn't here yet. Thanks for sharing this.

Love it. I studied medieval German in college & Old Norse in grad school. My only suggestion is that you may wish to use the traditional meter of Old Norse prose-poems, maybe even use the split lines of epic poetry. I agree that this would be terrific for performance.

Kennings . . . yeah, it's crossed my mind many times to learn, but hasn't happened yet . . .

Thanks so much everyone
