It's a boy! His name is Ryder. If it had been a girl she would have been Autumn. My herione is a half-assed hippie.

My hero doesn't have a name yet.

It needs one syllable. His middle name is Johnson, last name young.

I always have trouble with male names. I've never named a boy before I guess

Suggestions sure are welcome!

I managed 1758 words today. That brings me up to 3390.

My character is "somewhere" about to do do "something." The somewhere and something hasn't been decided yet.

My MC is currently scrubbing dog poop off her neighbor's front porch.

I keep trying to get her to go home, but she just keeps staying there in her yellow Playtex rubber gloves.

I'm amazed at you that can write sex scenes. I cannot. At all. Mine basically sound like, "He touched her hair. They kissed. And then they did it."

It's not so much that I'm prudish, it's just that everything I try to write sounds so corny and Harliquiny. That's why my stories NEVER have sex.

I'm up to 12,675. : I'm feeling good about that. I think what I'm writing is okay, but possibly a little boring. It will need some MAJOR editing come December.

For those that did (and won) Nano last year, did you get an email about getting your Nano published in book form? I'm totally going to do that. It will be so fun to see my stuff in print!

Grant is good. It can't be short for anything though..like Joe is short for Joseph...because his mother hates that. My characters are quirky

My dh is Kent. Something like that. Only with dark hair..lol!

Mine won't have a sex scene but it will have plenty of teasing. I think the teasing in books is better than the sex. At least for me

I know!! You know I really like that about it because it makes it exciting and like I want to know more so I type more but my gosh I sat for a few hours and wrote out a time line and planned out every chapter and I sit down to write and my very first line and my plan goes completely out the window!

I'm glad I planned as I like to have a general direction but ack!

: Maybe I am just waaay too tired but I laughed so loud and hard my husband was looking on with some real concern from across the table.

********************

My characters are really coming alive. No, like really. I am a little concerned about my sanity. I really feel close to them.

ETA- and I haven't even written the hotty love interest in yet. I just know I am going to resent my husband for NOT being the guy I just invented to sweep my MC off her feet.

I wish reality was this appealing.

<sigh> only wrote 1,056 words today bringing my total to 4,446... I can NOT write any more right now.. I just wrote the part about how this character was beaten by her step-mother, then father then siblings as well, starting from the time when she could first talk.. siblings by the time she was five.. and she was beaten for things she did and that others did.. even things done by the person beating her... Just writing it crushes my spirit... I hate knowing there are people that live through things like that in this world.. and worse. But she is a very necessary character, and this part of her life must be explained as painful as it is..

I hope no one else has to write about anything else this hard..

Kym.. who would much rather be writing a sex scene... And she would never type a sex scene! (see "<insert sex scene here> the end" )

Well, my MC is currently... swimming. Actually, she's spent most of her 9458 words swimming... but then, she's a penguin. Yes, my main character is a penguin. Deal with it. I have to.

Smokering I also love that you're writing about a penguin!! Have you done a lot of research about it or are you just winging it? No pun intended!

Ok is it a bad sign when you are only on day for and you are already tired of naming things?! I have to name the villages and there are at least 9 of them that I know of and it's about to get complicated because the characters are moving from village to village, so they either need names or I'll be saying village 1, 2 , 3, etc... and that will get REALLY old and very confusing very fast!! Unfortunately since this is a different world than ours the names need to be made up, so I can't just pick common names of towns.. hmmm.. unless I take common names and then twist/distort them some how.. like Alexandria become Alemeadria.. hmm.. that might just work!! thanks for the helps!! (ie being there to talk out my problems to!!)

Hehehe... about the research? Um, here's the thing: I have a number of sea-related phobias. I can't Wikipedia penguins in case I get a glimpse of one being eaten by an orca whale. Exactly why I chose to write about a topic which terrifies me, which I am unable to research and about which I know nothing, I really cannot say. But I've had this story in my head since I was sixteen... and I was eighteen before it occurred to me that penguins don't actually live at the North Pole. Turned out OK, actually, that one; in fact, it sort of became the point of my story. Then, months later, I realised that penguins can't breathe underwater and I'd have to have my MC surface for air every so often, which kinda put the kybosh on a few planned scenes. So, um, yeah.

My story's sort of a vaguely allegorical mythic pre-history fantasy thing--think really bad Tolkien fanfic crossed with some wannabe Watership Down. I had to stop myself typing 'aught' and 'whence' yesterday, and I've asked my husband to shoot me nicely if he catches me wittering about starlight. Add to that the fact that one of my main characters doesn't talk, that my alleged themes encompass autism, Calvinism, cancer and story; that ideally, several of my chapters should be written in completely different writing styles ranging from stream-of-consciousness to iambic pentameter; and that I have a good strong narrative question which I'm no closer to answering than I was at 16... well, the end result is, as my sister so succinctly puts it, gitty.

Worse yet, I'm being haunted by the Fiction Rule of Thumb...

I am stumped. Yep, stumbep.

My MC is girl, 12 when the story starts. The beginning is VERY important to where the story goes. But the story REALLY doesn't get rocking till she's 14-17...and then she gets pg by her _____ (it's so wierd I can't even say it) when she is 17. And THEN all heck breaks loose.

The problem is that I am STUCK at 4,000 words. Should I just skip ahead 2 years, or work my way THROUGH 2 years. AHHHHH

Skip ahead! Definitely! You can always go back later. But if you stay stuck you'll have a hard time catching up and a hard time enjoying yourself. Just have fun!
