My partner and I got married this weekend.

Of relevance is we found a great way to acknowledge the "blending" and include SD in the ceremony. Our officiant read:

Quote:
"Love is a gift. ProtoLawyer and Partner have found not only the gift of loving one another, but also the gift of family. To recognize this new blended family, Partner, Proto, and SD, please join hands. I ask the three of you: Do you promise to respect each other and listen to each other, even if you don't always agree, Do you promise to laugh and have fun, and lovingly share good and bad together, Will you love each other and work together as a family? If you agree, please say, "We do."
We then gave my SD a small gift as a token of our commitment to her.

We also did a reading from Goodrich v. Massachusetts Department of Health, which is the case that paved the way for marriage equality in that state. (Our audience cracked up at the idea that I/we would include a court decision in our ceremony, but we though it was important.)

Quote:
Partner and Proto have chosen this as the reading on the nature of marriage:

"Marriage is a vital social institution. The exclusive commitment of
two individuals to each other nurtures love and mutual support; it brings stability to our society. For those who choose to marry, and for their children, marriage provides an abundance of legal, financial, and social benefits. Without question, civil marriage enhances the "welfare of the community. Marriage also bestows enormous private and social advantages on those who choose to marry. Civil marriage is at once a deeply personal commitment to another human being and a highly public celebration of the ideals of mutuality, companionship, intimacy, fidelity, and family.... Because it fulfills yearnings for security, safe haven, and connection that express our common humanity, civil marriage is an esteemed institution, and the decision whether and whom to marry is among life's momentous acts of self-definition."

And so, to our witnesses and honored guests here today, I ask you: Do you agree to support Proto and Partner as they accept this commitment and these responsibilities? If you agree, please say, "We do."

(Audience: "We do.")

This reading came from the court decision 'Goodrich v. Department of Health,' which granted marriage equality in the commonwealth of Massachusetts." Proto and Partner hope that everyone will someday be able to share in their happiness and marry the person of their choice.
(No pics, as I do need to stay relatively anonymous. But it was really cool.)

Yay!!!!!!!!!! Congrats!

That is so cool that you included such a unique reading in your wedding. I love when people include things that *really* mean something to them.

And darn it about the pics.

So are you Mrs. Partner? Or Ms. Proto? Given the fact that you are a lawyer, you might want Mrs. Partner ( Lawyer jokes are so fun). But I wouldn't be surprised if you stuck with Ms. Proto.

Pink, he is still Mr. Partner and I am still Ms. ProtoLawyer, as it were. Neither of us changed our names. A few people have already taken it upon themselves to change our names for us on the cards, but oh well.

Thanks!
