So, I have read that in blended and step families the most important thing to do is have something that you do as a family, once a week or so, that you ALL can enjoy...

Our family includes my husband and I, my 14.5 year old son from a previous marriage, and then the three smaller kids (7, 5, and 18 mos.)...my son doesn't have any relationship at all with his bio-dad, and my husband has been raising him since he was 4.

What kinds of family-things do you all do together?

My family was not a step family, but we had five kids, and as soon as the youngest could walk we started hiking. It was very fun. My dad would usually be up front with one brother, then my sister and me in the middle, and my mom bringing up the rear with the 2 younger kids. It was so nice to be out in the woods, and there was lots of time to play and build little fairy houses, etc.

We each had our own little fanny pack with my parents having backpacks with water, etc, and we'd get a coke to drink at the top (which was a huge treat for us) and the boys would bring their match box cars.

I kept a little hiking journal back then and I love to read it now.

Even if you don't have any hills or mountains nearby, a walk in the woods is just as good.
