We have quite a situation on our hands and just cant afford an atty.

To summarize: Biomom went thru AG last March to get child support from my husband. Child was 8 and we did not know he existed. We have visitation and our relationship with the child is growing slowly.

Meanwhile biomom was involved in a very complex/messy/abusive relationship with the father of her other 2 sons. In the end CPS stepped in and she "voluntarily" placed the kids with her mother, who then tried to take her to court to keep the kids. That side of the family is just a mess.

Thru all this the oldest child, my husbands, has developed lots of anger and other problems. Without speaking to my husband Biomom put him in a mental hospital and got him on medication. He was there for about a week. We found out after the fact. Had we been consulted we would not have been in favor of institutionalizing him or putting him on medication without a lot more careful thought. He basically had an outburst they couldnt handle, and Im sure it was pretty ugly, and she gave up. She was weeks away from giving birth after a very difficult pregnancy.

She now has told us we owe $1000 in medical bills related to his hospitalization. Health insurance premiums are included in our monthly support but she has not maintained coverage.

We just dont have the money. I am not insured and am due in August - we are paying for this birth out of pocket.

Does anyone have anything to advise us?

In Florida normally one parent carries the medical insurance and then cost after insurance for medical, dental, medications, ect are split 50/50 by the parents. Not sure if it is the same in Texas.

It DEF is that way in Texas and OK. We are responsible for carrying med coverage for the boys and any added expenses (RX, co-pays, etc) are split 50/50. If the court papers state that the CS includes an amount to be used for ins coverage (or you can show you were paying x # of dollars over CS for ins) then it is HER fault that she did not actually get them the coverage! Additionally, I believe that all medical has to be discussed and agreed upon by BOTH parents, but your papers should specify that. Sorry you're goin through that...hope it gets worked out soon. GL
