Anyone represent yourself in family court?
Dh's ex is pushing issues that could be settled out of court and we CAN NOT afford a lawyer! So advice???? BTW we are in Canada

I represented myself in BC. I found a great step-by-step guide done by the Law Society. Maybe Manitoba has something similar?

I'd try some sort of mediation first, though. If you can sit down with someone and figure out what you want the plan to be, you can submit it to the courts yourselves. And often the courts are so over-burdened that they want as many people as possible to go to mediation, so maybe there'll be resources available for that.

I agree to seek mediation if possible. I know in Alberta, most cases don't even make it to court unless you've at least tried mediation first.

I'd also check into Legal Aid.

My DH has always represented himself in family court, as has SD's mom.

We live in Alberta, if that helps.
