I have really bad SPD (symphasis pubis dysfunction aka feeling like I'm being kicked in the crotch repeatedly and unable to walk more than 10 feet without falling over). I tried wearing a special belt that the midwives gave me but it did not help. I am basically housebound, I can't take my kids out because I am unable to walk. We tried going to the store today and I made it as far as the door (from the parking lot) and then got to sit on a bench while my family shopped because I couldn't walk anymore! Oh fun! I am in pain every second of the day and I just want it to end! I am 35 weeks 1 day so I am supposedly supposed to suffer through this for another month but I think I will be wheelchair bound if I have to wait that long. I am going to beg and plead for my midwives to strip my membranes at my 38 week appointment (February 2) and pray to God it works. With my daughter they stripped my membranes at 39 weeks and I went into labour 2.5 days later. I know its wrong, wrong, wrong but as soon as I hit 37 weeks I am going to try and get this baby out on my own. Obviously sex isn't an option because if I spread my legs even the width it takes to sit on the toilet I cry through the whole thing. I don't really know what else to try but I am going to do a little search and figure something out (but nothing to severe because I have had 2 c-sections). I never had this with my other 2 pregnancies and didn't even know it existed. I am just so wiped out and angry and exhausted (any time I open my legs a bit to much in my sleep I wake up screaming) and I want it to be over!!!!!

Shawna,
I am so very sorry. I have no advice as I also have never heard of such a thing. Please know that I am lighting a candle for you and will send prayers and healing vibes your way.

Blessings mama,

I am so sorry--I have been whining that "my privates hurt" for the past few months--but it's nothing like what you're going through

NO judgement on having your membranes stripped--it's for the good of your whole family--if you're that miserable, they probably are too.

Oh man Shawna! I feel for you. Try to keep you head up, and think of the beautiful baby at the end of the tunnel. I'm in a lot of pain, but no where near as bad as you. You are in my prayers.

Heavenly, I emailed my chiro/doula/friend about SPD asking her if chiro would help. This is her reply:
Chiropractic is the only thing that will help it. It is a simple adjustment probably no more than 3-4 times. Plus if there is an alignment problem in the front there will be one in the back and then the birth canal may not be being large enough to give birth. The pelvis is all connected.
So... if you're open to it, that might help you and baby and birth. =)
I hope you feel better soon!

I have had it on and off too. The only times that it is "off" is after I accidentaly crack my pubic bone turning over in bed or getting out of bed. It happened twice last night. Instant relief, albeit temporary for me. the first time it happened, I was trying to turn over in bed without screaming bloody murder, and my bottom leg got caught under my body pillow. Since the inertia of my huge belly and body was going the opposite way, my legs were spread wide as I turned over. Hurt like hell, but then I heard and felt a loud "POP" that made me think my water had broken or something. I was so stunned, I didin't move for a couple of minutes.

Anyway, the next morning, I could actually move without feeling like there were several ice picks in my groin.

Get thee to the chiro, woman! And get some relief!

Is this the pain in the front pubic area? If so, heck yes - get to a chiro!!! I've been having that pain and it does hurt to walk or do anything. I told my chiro and she adjusted my pelvis and the pain was GONE!!! It did slowly come back, but I'm going back in to get adjusted again.

Good luck! I cannot imagine being in that much pain while pregnant!!

hey shawna,

i don't have much advice, but i'm in the 35 weeks pregnant and practically homebound club too. last week i hurt my back sooo bad i couldn't walk, sit, stand....nothing! i went to a chiropractor and it helped, a little. it has been a whole week and i can barely walk now. i felt great when i woke up yesterday, and i rearranged the pillows on my couch, and bam! severe pain returned. i am so frustrated and disappointed. i'm scared this pain is going to prevent me from coping with a natural labor and birth. i'm also having pubic bone pain and my labia/pubic area is all swollen and it feels as if my hair is being yanked out.

uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhh!

now i am out on disability, thankfully, but i'm alone in the house all day and have a million things to accomplish and can't get anything done! my chiro said no dishes, half-bending activities, like laundry........and i haven't washed one thing for this baby!

i also tried to go to a store yesterday and couldn't make it in...i had to sit in the car while my friend went in for me i hate feeling this out of control in my body. and i wish i could be more positive today........

well, sorry for all the ranting, but i guess some of us just have these difficulties with our pregnancies. i thought it would help to hear that there are others out here......if i hear, "wow! i never had ANYYYYYYYY trouble my whole pregnancy! i loooooooooved being pregnant" one more time..........

ha ha!

hang in there....visualize your sweet blissful little one........it helps.

I have concluded that those people really feel like s&*( all the time if they really feel that good during pregnancy. Or they lie like a rug
