I have been a nervous wreck for the past week because we have been 'asked to leave' our current apartments by the end of the month.

We have alot of strikes against us and thought we were going to have a VERY hard time finding an apartment.

DH just called and he found a place that rent is only 50% of our income (we are currently paying 80%) no credit check, no lease, no minimum income requirement, $500 security deposit & only $100 to hold it til the end of the month!!!

PLEASE keep your fingers crossed that this place isn't a total hole in the wall! As long as it's not obviously dangerous we are going to go for it, it's just too good of a deal to pass up!

Dawn, mama to D (3.06) & N (9.07) C (11.09) & Still-in-shock surprise due in Aug!

Good luck! I'm in an almost identical situation - except relying on DH who is 4 hours away looking at it to tell me if its good or not. His most descriptive comment was "Its OK" and that's all I can get out of him.

Hope it works out for you!

I think I would go bonkers and send him a camera and film! I'm such a control freak that I'm having a hard time leaving this one up to DH (he's got this whole, 'man of the house' 'we are having a baby' 'gotta be responsible' thing going on, so I figured I'd give him a little control hehe!)

We drove by the place tonight, and looks good! Private front & back entrance, front AND back yard (!!!!) it's kind of out in the boonies, but I like that! It's just a little strip with four apartments... DH said the guy was really nice on the phone too.

We are going to look at the inside on Saturday

Oh, I hope it's lovely and safe! You're not homebirthing, are you? I don't think so...that would be extra stressful. I hope it works out for you!

No, thank goodness, that kind of stress would probably have sent me into labor by now! I was actually joking with DH about that last night that it was a good thing I hadn't planned a homebirth because then I'd be having nightmares about birthing in a cardboard box rather than living in one

Well, we went and looked yesterday, and signed the month-to-month rental agreement! The place is a bit small compared to our current place, but for $180 less a month, I can’t complain! We'll be moving in the weekend of the 28th!

PLUS! The place has a washer and dryer! So that’s gonna save us another $50 a month at least since we are CDing!

The people who run the place are great, they live right across the street in a really nice house with horses (!) and said DD was welcome to come over and feed them anytime (she LOVES horses)

Plus the apartment is about two blocks down the road from SIL, so I’ll have someone nice and close for those first few hard weeks with a newborn (at least I’ll be able to get a shower in!)

What a relief!

I'm so glad it worked out! We moved to a place picked by DH when Meg was 3 mos., and I was so stressed about whether it would work. I understand those feelings of wanting to nest in a safe, clean, good place. Sounds like you found it! Hope moving goes well.
warmly,
Kam, mamamama! to Meg, and one more

Oh, congratulations! Many blessings to you and your family in your new home. It sounds a wonderful place to settle into before your baby gets here...

What a major relief for you. It sounds like its more than adequate - has some really good things going for it.

Same situation here - going to go look at this place my DH picked out, and hopefully its ok (if not, I really don't know what I'll do!!) Hardest part will be condensing my entire house into a one bedroom apartment with a galley kitchen (I HATE GALLEY KITCHENS).

So is this a temporary place for you, a transitional place or you plan to stay for a long time?

Glad its working out for you Dawn! Seems like there are a lot of positives with the new place. I hope the move goes smoothly.

Yeah, we are going have to get rid of a lot of stuff, that's the only downside, there are only closets in each bedroom, none anywhere else (I have a feeling the laundry room is going become rather cramped!)

Um... not quite sure yet. Depends on how it goes. We are trying to repair DH's credit, so unless there are major problems with the place or the landlord that we didn't notice, we will probably try to stay there until we get his credit repaired enough to get approved for a house!
