I am going to just use a diaphram(sp?) bc I have such horrible side effects of
horomone birth control I can't take it and I WILL NOT ever do anything permenant.

i've been thinking about this alot...

we were using tcoyf when we got pregnant with this one (and were NOT trying)...so DP is nixing that one...

condoms give me yeast infections

birth control pills make me gain ridiculous amounts of weight.

the spermicide you pair with a diaphragm makes me swell.

i would never use an IUD...

I'm running out of options

Probably condoms...I'm so over the pill, and really don't want to mess with anything else. I may just use charts once my cycles start back up after the birth

Another person swearing off hormonal birth control for life! I'm sort of hoping that extended bfing gives me a nice window of fertility suppression, but of course that's not 100%.

I think either a diaphragm or just NFP. The problem with NFP/TCOYF is that I don't know how diligent we'd be about it...so I would only do it if we felt an "accident" wouldn't really be a huge problem.

We HATE condoms. Both of us. When we were using them (for a few months after I went off the pill and before we TTC), we basically stopped having sex b/c we couldn't stand them.

My mom always says she was pregnant so many times (10, but 3 were miscarriages and 3 were IUD pregnancies) because she hated condoms so much.

This is a hard one! It took 3 yrs for us to conceive DS - so after DS I assumed that I had fertility problems. We ecologically breastfed and I didn't get my cycle back until DS was 24 months! We didn't use BC at all!

Two cycles later and Pop - I am pregnant again! So, now I know that I am fertile! and need to be more careful next time. Not sure what to do though - NO CHEMICALS because I think that they contributed to my infertility with baby #1!

NFP is probably our option too.

I'd like to practice FAM so we'd be using condoms less... and we sort of have before when I KNOW I'm not fertile, we've skipped the condoms. We found a brand of condoms that don't make me itchy (I think it was spermicide that makes me itch) and don't smell like rubber really strong so that's what we use and we'll probably stick to it. They're better than any of the other condoms we used before, but I still like au natural better.

I won't use hormonal BC and I won't do anything permanent

Dh isn't interested in getting his parts snipped and I can't blame him.

I don't think I could use a cervical cap or diaphram, don't they both require spermicide?

I won't use an IUD- the idea of something like that sitting in my body where I can't remove it myself is too weird for me (and I'm a Mooncup user so not afraid of my parts! )

Nothing. Unless we have a very difficult birth or have some other problem, we don't a problme with getting pg again. We ant to have a couple while I'm still in school. Probably nursing will keep much from happening for at least a little while and probably longer, but if not, no problem.

My first dd pregnant with a condom(broke and was the first time with unprotected sex!)
My second dd pregnant on the pill (gained a lot of weight and couldn't remember to take it everyday)
After my #2 dd was born I went on the Depo shot and gained 20lbs in 4 months! Then my ex and I decided to not have kids for a few years so I got an IUD. I personally liked it because there is no side effects and you forget about it so sex can be spontanious. I had it for 2 years and took it out August 1st and conceived on August 28th.
I would use it again, but my SO wants to try for baby #2 within a year. I'm going to rely on breastfeeding and I guess condoms even though we don't like them. I'm mostly likely be back to the DDC boards four months after I give birth lol

Either DH is getting a vasectomy or I'm getting a tubal, or both! We're done having kids ~ plus I'll be 38 and DH will be 42 when this babe is born. We're getting too old for this !

~~Kristina~~ Mama to DS(10/30/01), DD1(VBAC 3/28/04) and DD2(HBAC 5/21/06)

DH might be getting a vasectomy. I'm all for it, but not sure dh is completely sold on the idea, even though he doesn't want any more children. Otherwise we will be using condoms most likely. I absolutely refuse to get a tubal, I think it's ridiculous for a woman to have to go through major surgery with so many risks when her partner can have a simple outpatient procedure to accomplish the same goal. I don't want to use any estrogen containing bc because of the risks to my milk supply and the mini pill made my cycles all wacky and gave me tons of breakthrough bleeding once I got AF back. I'm also not comfortable with the thought of having something (besides a baby) implanted in my uterus. So condoms or vas it is!

We are planning on DH getting a vasectomy. We'll probably wait a few months to make sure that we're actually done with having children, but we are 95.99999% sure now. No way am I getting a tubal and DH is very willing to get the vasectomy since it is such a minimally invasive surgery- especially compared to a tubal. And no way am I going to hormonal BC, I would rather become celibate first.

condoms (I am latex sensitive so we use the polyurathane kind w/o spermicide). When babe is older and milk is established well I will probably go on Alesse birth control pill. I absolutely do not want to get pregnant while nursing and will nurse at least 2-3 years based on baby's needs (I nursed dd 31 months). At the beginning of this pregnancy I thought this would be my last one and now I am not sure. Dh is not sure either. If I have another I would want to get pregnant by the time I m 33 and I will be (barely) 30 when I deliver this one. 3 is my max but I don't like the idea of doing anything permanent. Of course having another one depends on how I feel after 2 and how deliver and recovery is after this one.

I was going to add... be sure anyone who goes on the pill reads the side effects and watches for them. A friend of mine never dreamed she'd have the side effect she had.

She had some strange leg pain when pregnant with her ds and her OB poo-poo'd it. A year later it almost killed her. It turns out she had a blood clot in her leg that ended up moving to her lungs months later. She had medical care just in time, we almost lost her. Her regular doctor said it was most assuredly caused by her birth control pills because she had no other risk factors (she's in her mid-20's).

I don't remember the name of the pill she was on, I think it was a mini-pill because she was bf'ing. She ended up having to wean her ds earlier than she'd planned to go on blood thinners. Hopefully she'll be off them soon. She is not supposed to use the pill again.

I just wanted to throw that out there... it was really scary to almost lose her.

I'm another pill hater--can't do them
Won't do an IUD either

DH and I hate condoms

but I have a heck of a time with FAM. I use it as a 'guesstimator' but can't temp on a regular basis. I'm just not functional in the morning.

I'm not too worried about it though. Each kiddo we've had has been planned.
Although it would be nice to have a care-free, thought-free bc method.

dh and I haven't discussed him getting snipped--this is most likely our last kiddo
but who knows what the future will bring, kwim?

I'm not tooo worried about it though

I will be 27 when these babies are born and my DH will be 31. He and I both are happy with the number of children we will have, so we decided to go the permanent route.

He will have a vasectomy if I make it through my VBAC, and I will have a tubal the same time as a section if that happens. Hard conclusion to come to for us both, but I refuse to use horomonal bc and he refuses to use condoms. TCOYF is something I am not very diligent about and BFing (obviously!) doesn't keep me from ovulating!

DH wants to be done at two kids, and get a vasectomy.
I would like to wait a bit to make SURE we're done, and during that time, we'll probably use what we used last time: breastfeeding.

After three precious kiddos already, this next one is going to be our last. We're both getting "fixed". Kinda sounds weird, it's not really "broken".

I would hope all of us are planning on nursing our babies a minimum of the first year. An immediate pregnancy after this one will make your milk dwindle if not dry up completely - especially if your milk is not well established before you get pregnant. Not to mention nursing while pregnant with sore nipples is NOT fun. Breastfeeding is not a good method of birth control. If you don't believe your milk will dry up just look at all the posts by pregnant Mommas whose milk is gone. We all have our own opinions on child spacing etc., but I think this is a MAJOR thing to think about.

I suppose that was prompted by my post. When I say "breastfeeding", it's not just the hormonal less-likely-to-get-pregnant thing...it's that I'm just about totally uninterested in sex at all when bf.
So to be totally accurate, we use a combination of
1. breastfeeding and
2. barely having any sex because of the breastfeeding and
3. avoiding certain times of the month (nfp)

To those of you who have problems with diaphragms because of spermicide sensitivity, you could always try a natural spermicide. I used an aloe and lemon juice recipe (clinically tested by a British gynacologist) with no irritation. There are also lactic acid based spermicides availble from Europe. There is a yahoo group on diaphragms and caps that has lots of info and recipes if anyone is interested - just let me know.

Angela- I'm interested if you'll post the link. I'm on too many YG already but I can go no mail and browse.

I wonder if even the natural spermicides would work for me though- I can't even use soap on my parts since it throws off my pH levels and the only thing that goes up that is my Mooncup. I don't even soap my Mooncup, just wash it in really hot water.

Okay, I lied. One other thing goes up there besides the Mooncup. Nobody is going to believe I'm a virgin at this point.

This is the link for the yahoo group, it is members only, but approval is quick.

The nice thing about the aloe/lomen and lactic acid spermicides is that they work by pH rather than chemical killing of the sperm. Both are acidic pH like the vagina, which is uninhabitable to sperm except when semen changes the pH of the vagina post-intercourse. The nat. spermicides kill sperm by maintaining an acidic barrier around the cervix, and they help maintain the pH of the vagina, unlike the chemical spermicides.
