EEK! I have been trying for a bit to get my wedding band off and can't seem to do it. The place where the ring is has some space, I can turn the ring but I just can't get it off of my finger. I'm afraid that I might have to get it cut off, but I *really* don't want to do that because we had our rings specially designed (Celtic knotwork)!

Anyhow, I figured if I can save any of the rest of you from this I would try!

I have tried: icing my finger, soaking in cold water, using soap, using olive oil

If anyone else has other suggestions as to how to get a ring off, feel free to add them!

Good luck, mamas!

Well, you;ve tried all the things I would recommend. Is there a time when your fingers are a little less swollen? Maybe try then? How about after a hot shower? I usually feel a little less puffy after one of those. I had to take mine off at around 10 weeks because I noticed that it was hard to get them on and was afraid they would get stuck. On the plus side, if you can't get it off, no one else can and it won't fall off accidently.

Try taking off your rings first thing in the morning. Much like your ankles, your fingers will swell throughout the day. Do it before you get out of bed.

I took mine off 3 days ago when i noticed they were starting to get tight. The last thing I want is to have them cut off in the event of a c-section

I took mine off weeks ago, but my lesson was that I have to get it resized. I got married when I was 22 and 112 lbs and I'm 31 and not even close to that skinny and my knuckles are just bigger, too, from 10 years of typing at a keyboard.

Anyway, I got mine off by getting into the shower first thing after I got up, raising my arm way up in the air and letting all the blood flow out, and used lots of baby shampoo. It hurt, but I got it off. I now have a permanent indentation where it was.

If you tend to swell a little, make sure you get 80 gms of protein and drink lots of fluid and salt to taste. If you do that for a few days your hands will likely be less puffy and it will come off easier. Good luck!

My rings are still able to come off and on easily. Of course I was so sick months 1-5 that I didn't gain anything and as of now have only gained 12.5 lbs.

BTW, my rings are celtic knotwork as well!!! DH had them made for me from a design I picked out. I'd hate to have them cut off as well!

The salesguy at the jewelry store talked us out of getting teh first ring we picked--he pointed out that if we planned on having kids we'd probably have to get it resized and it had settings all around that would've made re-sizing impossible.

Now we're glad of his advice. The wedding band hasn't fit in two months. I'm still wearing the engagment ring--it's a half size or so larger. After the baby is born and I'm in my new normal we'll get the wedding ring sized up to match the engagement ring.

Now i'm just watching the engagement ring--taking it off every couple of hours throught eh days to make sure it still comes off.

I waited too long last pg to take them off and ended up having to cut them off. my wedding band now periodically needs repaired because the place where they fixed it wears through once in a while.

the only other suggestion i have heard (from a jeweler) is window cleaner (like Windex) to help get that ring off.
i also noticed my ring no longer was fitting well, and it was starting to really irritate me in general (i'm not a big jewelry-wearer)so i've been without a ring for a few weeks. however, i feel weird not having it on...like somehow someone will notice and think i'm not married...i don't know why that bothers me, but it does...must be the hormones so i bought a cheap ring last week just to have something. well, the silver finish is already starting to rub off nad i have a nice green circle around my finger. yeah.: i guess i'll have to by another "cheap" ring that is a little better made than this one

Ugh. I almost couldn't get my solitaire off the other day so once I did get it off I put it up for now. I'm still wearing my wedding band... I can get it off if I use cold soapy water.

I hate to take mine off... I did have to take them both off in the final weeks of my first pg because I was retaining water (bad advice from OB, I didn't exercise )... no problems with pg#2. I'm hoping I won't have to take off my wedding band this time...

Why do I care so much anyway?

Huh. I never even knew this was an issue. I'm 33+ weeks, wedding/engagement rings are still a little loose (which is how they were to start). I would hate for my wedding band to get stuck...but I'd also hate to take it off! I guess I'll just start paying more attention to how my fingers look...

I took mine off at about 24 weeks and put them on a chain so I can still wear them!

Mine still slides fairly easily over my finger, which is pretty amazing given that I've gained 50+ pounds!

I did take off my engagement ring a few months ago, b/c having them both on was making me paranoid that I'd have to get them cut off (I slide the ring on my finger throughout the day, making sure it can still come off). It just felt too bulky to have them both on...

My DH, who lost a lot of weight a few years ago, wears his on a chain around his neck. We keep meaning to get it resized (or get one of those plastic/ metal things that tightens rings -- tho this one is so loose, I don't think that will work) but we keep forgetting.

Anyway, I keep expecting to have to take the wedding band off, but it hasn't happened yet...

Good reminder about the rings coming off! Even if they fit you fine now, if you are having a hospital birth definately take them off before you go. The IV fluids will swell you up, as I learned when I was admitted for PTL. I took them off in time, w/great difficulty BTW, but then I worried about them in my purse the whole time I was there. I have kept them off now and will give them a good clean & put them back on after babe is born.

I just took mine off an hour ago, and it took a little effort, especially for the wedding band to come off. I walked this morning, and it's 80 degrees out, so that's probably why my fingers are a little swollen. I don't want to risk them getting stuck on there though.

Well, I ended up taking mine off last night during our community seder... I don't know if it was just paranoia or what, but it felt tighter than it had during the day. I'm going to try it back on again this morning and see.

I had to cut it off last night... It was very sad, DH cut it and we bent it slowly so it's not completely mangled. It was NOT coming off any other way, though, in fact we had to bend it a bit before I could twist it off. I guess we'll have to get it fixed or remolded. My finger feels so weird without the ring!

I'm glad to hear that my warning has helped some of you, though!

I'm taking mine off. We can't afford to repair it and it's warmer day today. My hands are starting to swell fromt he heat already and it's only noon and I've spent most of the morning napping. If I leave it on I'm sure I won't be ablet o get it off within a couple of hours.

I got my ring off yesterday no problem but not sure it will be easy today. It's 80 degrees and even not pg my rings get tight on super hot humid days so I should probably get it off just to be safe.

Hmmm, I've only thought of my fingers swelling a couple of times until I started reading this thread. My rings have always been pretty loose but fit well and that still seems to be the case. At various times though I take them off when I'm washing my hands to give them a rinse under the water to make sure all the soap residue is gone so it doesn't get trapped and break me out. So I guess I've got a check to see if rings are getting too tight system all set up already!

Thanks! It was sad to do, but it was making me panic a little since I know I couldn't get it off... hopefully they'll be able to repair it easily! If not, DH said we could ask the guy who made it to recast it, should be a lot cheaper than the first time around since we already have the gold. Maybe I'll wait until I see how big my finger is after the baby comes!
