We were down to 2 names before she was born and I really wanted to wait until after she was here to decide. Dh had his favorite while I had mine (along with my girls), but I truly was waiting until I saw her. After she was born I *assumed* we would wait a couple of days and discuss her name. I was wrong. When dh started making calls, he told everyone her name and while it was the one I had wanted, I still wasn't sure it was the right one for her. Then once everyone knew, I just assumed that was her name. Sent out birth announcements with her name and everything. I STILL (she's 9.5 weeks) don't feel like it is the right name. I have not filled out the paperwork for her birth certificate yet so that's not hard, but what about the birth announcements and everyone we know? Would have to change info pretty much everywhere, but it could be done. How nuts is it to change her name at this point? Is it going to be weird for our 3 kids (although they mostly refer to her as "baby")? HELP!!!

Man, that's a toughie. At this point, I probably wouldn't change it. But, that's just me. Do what makes your family happy.

Ladies, pardon me from lurking from another club, but I wanted to comment.

As long as it would not cause a family riot, and there is a name that you are sure is far more suitable, I'd go ahead and do it.
My best friend did just that last year. The baby's name changed from "Nicole Marie" to "Ava Marie". In her case, she told family and close friends personally, then sent along the christening invitations a few months later.

Your baby's name is for the rest of her life, so if you truly feel there was an error, go through the trouble of the change.

ITA.

I too have had some name "issues." (so to speak) Dh had the name Elijah picked out for his 1st son before we even met and when we got together and talked about baby names, Elijah was on my list of fav names so it was easy. I, too, have always fancied that name. Anyways, dd came out a girl so it was a given that if this dc was a boy, he would be Elijah. Well, the name fits him perfectly but it's his middle name (River) that has me on a stump. For some reason I feel like River kinda shouldn't be his mn. I mean, I love the whole name it's just that I feel like River is much more than just a mn. Like, I should've waited to use it...perhaps there is another boy in our future that would've been River or something. I dunno. Maybe I'm just crazy. I told myself this past weekend that I would just forget about it. (since it's been on my mind alot) Elijah River is his name and that's that but I guess there will alwys be a part of me that feels a bigger connection to the name River. Who knows, maybe he'll prefer to be called by his mn when he's older. I mean, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the name Elijah and he certainly looks like an Elijah...I just feel like maybe River should've been saved for a first name. (not that we're planning on having more but..)

Am I completely nuts? :

*sigh*

We are actually changing ds1's middle name--and he's 2 years old! I am very excited about his new name. It fits him much better than his current one. He doesn't know his middle name yet so I think its a good time to do it.

Syrinx, Soulmate to Pan, Mama to Zion (5), River (3), Silver (1) and expecting a baby Storm...

I thought I was the only person to regret what they named one of their children !!
My twins are Jesse and Jayden .. but I just dont think the name Jesse fits him. He doesnt LOOK like a Jesse .. he looks more like a Joshua, or something more boyish .. I dont know .. its just weird. But I'm glad I"m not the only one who feels this way.

Do what will make you happy.... so if you want to change it, discuss it with your husband. Maybe you could make the current first name her middle name so that would make it easier.

Homeschooling SAHM to 3 children under 5 + one on the way.
