I posted pics a while back about our new puppy, we know that his mother was an tri merle Aussie.....his father though....we dont. We got him from a buffalow farm, in a ver well to do area in the country. So there are lots of pure bood "working" dogs, aswell as the random stray. The people we got him from thought he was a Geman Pointer mix, or a lab, becuase those are the nighbor dogs, but couldnt say for sure. (the mama went into her first heat, and hand been crated for the da, and their son let her out not knowing)

Anyways now he is about 6 months old....and pretty big....really big for a pointer.....what do you think?

I didn't before, at ALL, but now I see pointer. I don't see lab. Do you have any pics from the side to show his body style and his tail?

Also, intelligence does not equal trainability. Not saying that he is or isn't smart though.

Here

HE is smart, he is just so freaking hyper and out of control. And he doesn't like treats! What dog on this earth doesn't care about treats?
When he was in his training lessons, the teacher didnt know what to do with him....it was kida funny. All i could think about was that Marley and Me movie.

I'm sticking with pointer. Also, a dog that doesn't like treats could not possibly be half lab

Our dog isn't big on treats, like traditional doggy treats.

We cut hot dogs and sausage for her.

Oh my, what a cutie- no idea on breed.

the body shape from mid tummy to tail reminds me of beagle.

How big is your dog? I could see either pointer or lab, especially if I imagine a chocolate or yellow lab. I would think the not liking treats would be an aussie thing, but maybe pointers aren't that big on them either. Labs, well, everybody says they'll eat anything. I think Aeress and gumby have good suggestions.

At the wonderful positive dog training class we just graduated from they recommended cutting up chicken hot dogs. It's more economical as well. You can get a pack of Gwaltney chicken franks for 99¢. Cut them lengthwise in 4 strips and then dice the strips. If you either microwave them on paper towels for 5 minutes or toast them in a toaster oven or conventional oven for a few minutes it dries them out and makes them less greasy. Still keep them in the fridge, but they'll last a long time.

He doesn't seem as boxy and bulky as a lab, but not as jowly and droopy as a pointer. Tough call. Coloring is right for a pointer and Aussie. I think I'm going with pointer, though.

I have a lab(?) coonhound mix. I know she's hound because she bays. She's sweet, but very scent driven. She's a dog's dog. She loves to play with other dogs and is super fluent in all the proper signals. My older dog (possible border/sheltie mix) is much more of a house/person dog. If I give them free access to the great outdoors my hound mix will be out there baying and digging holes and sniffing the breeze and my older dog will be right right here curled up on his bed unless he needs to do business or something really exciting is happening out there. Maybe you can make a more educated guess from his behavior and other characteristics like that.

My Aussie (who has a always been a fabulously well behaved dog, though I just posted about recent misbehavior) could care less about treats. A smile is all he wants, and all we needed to use to train him.

Looks like a Lab/Aussie mix to me.  I work with dogs all day--and he looks a lot more lab than pointer.  It's pretty common for Aussie mixes to have that sort of ticking to their coloring.  It comes from the merle genes.  One of mom's parents was probably a blue merle aussie.

I think german short haired pointer. When I first saw the pics, before actually reading your text, I thought "well, that looks like a merled short haired pointer with white. ..."  Reading your text explains the merle pattern I'm seeing, along with the white bib.
