I live with my dad, my stepmom, my kids, and our combined number of four cats. Three belong to my children and myself, one to my dad. Mulder, my dad's cat, had been living there before we arrived. The house is, in simple terms, a three story mansion. The cats transitioned wonderfully. Very little fighting, very little territoriality, and after a month or so, they started getting along.
We've been living here 8 months. During the past 3, Mulder has had three bladder infections. What happens is he pees some completely inappropriate place in the house, right where he's sleeping, then my stepmom confines him to the (finished and very nice) basement until he's well. The symptoms of the bladder infection are lethargy, urinating where he's sleeping and not hiding it at all, drinking extra water and not wanting to eat.
Unfortunately his recoveries have been short-lived. The most recent lasted only a week after he was on antibiotics and he was still in confinement at that time. He wet the basement couch and is more lethargic than ever.
He has had extensive bloodwork and the doctor could find NOTHING. Definitely not diabetes.
Is there anything else this could be, or has my old friend lost bowel control. He's, I believe, 12, and has had top veterenary care his entire life. No major health problems, but his brother (my childhood cat) had heart failure at 11. He has one odd symptom, a hidden mass on the back of his neck--he's a pudgy boy--which the vet says is benign. It's pus-filled, according to the vet, but he doesn't know the origin of it.
My stepmom sees how bad Mulder's feeling during his episodes and is ready to have him euthanized in the coming week. I agree his quality of life is very low when he's sick, but I'm not ready to give up until I ask the mamas here, is there anything else the vet should check?
