Hi, I'm new to this forum because so far our cats haven't been a problem - we've been focusing on the kids.orngtongue.gif

However, for several months now we are getting worried that our two five-year-old cats might actually hurt one another, they have been fighting so much. They fight about cosy spots, chase each other round the house, particularly at night, spit, growl and yell at each other and are hardly ever seen cuddling or licking any more. Sometimes we need to separate them because we cannot stand it any more.

They are litter mates (probably - they were dropped off together at an animal shelter and have the same tufty ears), one female, one male, both neutered. So far, they've been indoor cats (worried about toxoplasmosis and other stuff for our own sakes and traffic for theirs). Our house is very old, small and boxy, but with lots of nooks and crannies, rafters and beams to climb. Because they used to get on swimmingly, they have so far shared a food dish, a toilet and their water dishes. We'd be hard pressed to find a place for a second toiletour house is so small, but we could do another food dish I guess. However, they have never fought about food, only occasionally about special treats, and look relaxed when eating together.

Could it be that the social stress of being indoor cats has become too much with the arrival of a new family member? Should we brave the viruses and traffic and let them go out? We live in a fairly rural area, but people drive like maniacs anyway...
